2025 UofSC home game pushed back to 2033

Yep, according to FBSchedules.com, who obtained a copy of the new contract, the Cocks pushed back the 2025 trip to Boone to 2033, with a return trip to Columbia in 2034.
Additionally, App will now go to Williams-Brice twice more, in 2025 and 2027 to the tune of $1.95M for each game.
However, the 2027 game could be moved as UofSC's game with ECU from last season was rescheduled to that year.

Someone help me understand why App would do this. Is the gist that we're strapped for cash post-COVID and this gives us a money game in '25?
Hopefully we can schedule someone decent with at least one of the two open home slots.

The article says we'll host 2 home games vs SC. 2033 in Boone...but when is the other home game for us? Article only says 2033, and they've updated they're yearly schedules and I only see 1 game in Boone. Typo?

Took me a while to figure that out too. It's simply a factual error:
"Overall, South Carolina will end up hosting three games of the series while Appalachian State will host two,
which includes the original contest that was played in 2019."

I can't think of a good reason, other than we thought we wouldn't make $2MM from hosting an SEC opponent? I bet we would clear more than that. Its just the first domino in SC wriggling out from their obligation.
I also think G5 ADs play nice in these situations, so they don't develop a reputation of being "hard to get a long with". Frankly a little tired of P5s negotiating these contracts in bad faith.

I don’t understand this at all, aside from the fact that our athletics department needs cash faster than we realized. There’s no upside to this other than money, which I’m not even sure is an upside here.
I’d just assume ride out the existing contract and sign another with a separate P5 than delay our home game with them for 12 years from now… Another example of a P5 leveraging their size/money in a bad way.

So it looks like it turns a 2 for 1 into a 4 for 1 with SC getting games 1, 2, 3, and 5 in Columbia.
You have to assume this is being done to make up for Covid losses, but damn this sucks.

They weren’t coming to Boone in 2025 and you’re kidding yourself if you think they show up in 33. It.wont.happen.

The only thing that I can think of that might have been the reason for DG to agree to this would be the possibility that KBS would be substantially bigger in 2033. Just a guess. I don’t like the optics of this either.

USC should be able to pay when they do play...EC says it sent each school $23M to make up for financial losses related to COVID-19

I'm thinking this is money related, d/t the lost revenue of the past season. If it is for money reasons it makes sense the more I think about it as:
- it locks in a P5 school to 2 more games with us; P5 seems to be getting harder to schedule as P5 is moving towards playing less G5 and FCS teams; a couple conferences have already dropped an OOC game in favor of an additional conf game
- it gets us a nice payout, and by moving the away games up it gets us the money sooner (I don't know
I wanted to attend this game too and am disappointed it got moved back. But we didn't lose it, it just moved. We didn't lose anything; good, smart way to raise some revenue just by being flexible and moving our pieces around. Besides by the time we get SC at home in 2033 the South Endzone Project will be finished and the new track installed

I like this from the added money we will gain but hate to see it move back. I still don't see any way they actually come here. I would bet money that they will buy out by increasing money for us to come there or something.

There is no doubt that they will have a new AD by the next game in the series and I would be surprised if he does not buy out to schedule a P5 home game. I never expected them to actually show up. With that said, money is clearly the reason for this. Gillin does not do stupid things and we need the money so he took it. I would imagine he would give up the home game in Boone for a big payout and I imagine that SC will eventually make that offer to get us in Columbia again.

I am really disappointed about the game being pushed but I'm sure that Doug had his reasons to agree to it.
