2021 Football Roster

Unread post by CornCobPipes » Thu Jun 03, 2021 8:00 pm

Anyone have the answer as to why there is a delay in updating the official 2021 football roster on AppStateSports.com?

Notice some of the transfers are not listed as of yet.
KICK ASS!!!

My hypothesis is that they haven’t taken their pictures yet. The Freshmen that arrived for the Spring semester are up but not the guys that just got there last week. Most likely a timing issue.

👍That is my speculation as well. As to be expected in today's world, adjustments are slow to develop and patience isn't my virtue on these things.

Goodness, we are getting A LOT of DB's. Wish some of those transfers were defensive linemen, NT specifically.

Competition for CB2 across Jolly should be a good one. I imagine Jones is the front runner there but I’m sure it’ll be an open competition.

As far as NT goes, Jordan Earle has all the physical tools to be an elite player. Really hope he puts it all together because if he becomes Myquon type disruptive, him and Meech will wreak havoc this year because they both can’t be double teamed.

We are nine deep in quality across the defensive front. Anyone transferring in at that spot would be for depth purposes so not a real pressing need.

Yeah, I agree. I count 17 D-linemen on the current roster. We have Jordan Earle at 6'2 300 and Blackstock at 6'1 270. For the bowl game last year, the two-deep at NT was Earle and Dingle-Prince at 6'0 255. I'm assuming those three will be the rotation at NT. I don't know much about Chris Washington but he is listed at 5'11 285, so maybe he is in the mix as well. My point was, instead of continuing to add DB's to the roster, I'd like to see another 300+ DL, especially in a 3-4 defense, you need a BIG body in the middle.

I’m not factoring Blackstock into the equation. He was out for a good portion of the season last year. I don’t know if he even participated in Spring Ball. Taking him out you have Earle, Dingle-Prince, and Washington at NT. Spurlin, Meech, Dawkins, and Palient at the ends. Spurlin and Meech can spot duty at NT as well. We also have six true or RS Freshmen that could see some time as well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a true Freshmen or two come in a make a difference.

As for a 300+ transfer NT, I don’t see that happening in our style of defense. We need guys that can get up the field and clog lanes. Guys that can do that effectively at 300 lbs are in the SEC. We are better off growing them to fit the role.

I believe Earle is the first 300 lb. starter at NT since 285 lb. MyQuon Stout beat out two bigger, older players for the job in 2016.

Not that I'd be against it, but we seem to have a type that's been successful. I would expect Dingle-Prince to add some weight, he was a true freshman after all.

It would not surprise me to see Karon White in the rotation or at least make bid for it….. at 6’2 a reported 275 … his HS videos looked really good.

Agree on White. I would add DeShawn McKnight to that list of true freshmen that could contribute as well. I don’t get too hung up on size. True Freshmen rarely come into a school like APP, (G5) with ready to play bodies on the line. Most need to move that mass around through strength and conditioning. One of best of the current defensive lineman is only 5’11” 245lbs.

You are right and hopefully we start to win even more P5 battles in recruiting. We have to pull even more kids than we have now who have offers from VT, Vandy, Kentucky, Ole Miss, NC State, Illinois, Indiana, Syracuse, etc. type schools to get to the next level or get better players.

It is very tough to do but there are some big 300 pound DTs at G5 and FCS level every year who are legit NFL prospects that could help us. We will really need some more size in 2022 when we face 2 legit P5 top 25 teams who have monsters on the OL and DL.

I think the guys that we are getting now are pretty damn good. I’ll leave the determination of “better” players to the coaches.

We are successful because we get guys that want to be here. That’s huge.

This plus getting guys that fit our schemes over the prestige of "recruiting rankings". I think our staff has done a great job prioritizing the "Right Fit" over "Star Rankings" and our program has benefited greatly from it.

I agree they are very good. I'm just saying that now we have taken a step from when we first came to FBS but now the next step is getting more than 2-3 who turn down a P5 and haul in say 8-12 and a couple of them being bigger linemen that typically don't go G5. With our facilities I believe we can do that.

I have trust in our coaches and we will see how well we are hitting and developing by attrition and improvement in our players. I always say that wins show us how good our coaches/strength coaches are recruiting and developing talent. With our brand name, facilities, stadium, etc there is no reason not to expect a lot of success. From what I have seen from the facilities and listening to Shawn speak I have high confidence we can see the expected results.

There cannot possibly be a huge difference with one 6’2” 270lb defensive lineman in HS versus another one who is 6’3” 290lb. Both get in S&C programs and one just might grow or fill out more than the other. Both kids are probably among the biggest and strongest in their prospective towns or counties. I really believe it comes down to luck and the S&C program.

I am not following what you are actually trying to say. You like our success, which comes from good talent evaluation and development. But at the same time, you want to leverage the system that got us to this point to get better players? How are you defining the term “better”?
