17 Mountaineers on PFF's All Conference Team
a lot of talk about our OL this year, but we have a 1st team OT and G....and lots more talent spread across this team
"App State Football has six first-team picks and 17 overall selections on the preseason All-Sun teams from PFF College, which evaluates players with film-based grades.
The Mountaineers' first-team preseason selections are Camerun Peoples (running back), Cooper Hodges (offensive tackle), Baer Hunter (interior offensive lineman), Demetrius Taylor (edge defender), Brendan Harrington (linebacker) and Xavier Subotsch (punter)."

No mention of Corey Sutton at all. I know he opted out last year because of needed recovery, but dang it is like these guys didn't see him play before that. Talk about a slight.

These guys have the memory of a gnat. They'll remember him soon, though!

Re: 17 Mountaineers on PFF's All Conference Team
Sutton is a big snub for sure. They have the Clemson WR who missed the year but not Sutton so definitely inconsistent. The inconsistency on that makes you wonder.
I peaked through the ACC and the snub of Zion Nelson from the top 2 teams is crazy. NFL teams view him as a top 100 pick but he is not even among the top 6 at his position in the ACC?
Luckily, the postseason teams done by the coaches are all that matters.
They basically hired hundreds of nerds, paying them peanuts, to watch a few games a week and calculate every stat. I'm not 100% sure these people are trained enough to get all that right. They do zero talent evaluation and basically go solely by the numbers, which is why their draft projections and results are among the bottom 3 of all websites pretty much every year.
One great thing PFF does, which has a ton of value to me, is their video package. You can use their stuff to pick say every play a WR lines up in the slot or a DB is in zone coverage, etc. That helps so you don't have to find a player who plays just 8-10 snaps a game by watching the full games. I know NFL teams use that tool as a shortcut when they have to watch rotational or role players all the time.

To be fair, Hunter and Hodges are the knowns on the OL. It’s Hardy (who did get significant time last year), Helms, and Daley (assuming these two are the new OGs) who will determine how good the OL this year.Captain Morgan wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 2:58 pma lot of talk about our OL this year, but we have a 1st team OT and G....and lots more talent spread across this team

Some thing that has caught my interest, in 2020 PFF has App giving up 16 sacks while in 2018 and 2019 combined App gave up 16 sacks. I’m curious what caused the dramatic increase. I do wonder if Garrison was just somewhat of a weak link, of the 24 combined sacks allowed in ‘19 and ‘20, PFF attributes 6 of those solely to Garrison.

I recall some being coverage sacks. Our receivers weren’t able to get open well enough in every instance, and we didn’t have a deep threat for much of the season which kept everything closer to the LOS. And not to rehash and beat a dead horse into oblivion, but the pass scheme wasn’t always ideal to personnel (both on the field and in the coaching box).Yosef10 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 10:48 amTo be fair, Hunter and Hodges are the knowns on the OL. Brice will be one player that has already seen and played against The U, so that would provide some benefits to him and the offense.
