What are possible home on home series?

Why not this one… App State vs. Georgia Tech? Seems doable to me. Must play in Boone first. Go App! Would be a sell out at both locations.

2. Duke

3. Virginia

4. Maryland
- They think they're above us

Was Collins just vacationing in Boone, or there on business?

Get teams from the AAC added to future schedules. With the new playoff format, those games could decide who goes to the CFP in the final rankings.

I think P5s wouldn't do a long term even swap of home and homes. Face it, the bigger teams won't come here, and the lesser P5s are terrified of us.

App doesn't make Money on home P5 games.
It's a monetary loser to make fans happy.

I am not sure that is entirely true, but then again I have never seen the books. If we sell 20,000 tickets (reserve 10,000 for students) at $50 a seat that is 1 million dollars (we know some of the luxury seats cost well in excess of $50). Add in all the revenue from merchandise, food and drink sales and we may very well make more money then a payday at the P5 field. Again, without seeing the books nobody can know for sure but I am very comfortable that we would sell at least 20,000 tickets to any big P5 game at the Rock.

Dook, Vandy....insert P5 school with lower seating capacity..I can live with playing larger capacity schools on the road..is the fate of G5... actually like playing well at Penn State and Tennessee.
.. stadiums not much larger than ours compared to ours. Although not optimal but helps financials, charge more for tickets for these games..

You also have to look past the revenue from just one game and take more of a long view. Playing at home against Miami, Wake, UNC, etc. attracts the very casual fan (or even non-fan) who doesn't know who Louisiana-Lafayette is and won't show up to watch App play them. If you give them a great gameday experience, some of those fans will become repeat customers. Do it repeatedly, and that's how you grow a fan base and a brand.

So "to make fans happy" is accurate in a sense, in that it encourages those fans to increase their support of the program.

You have to also factor in operating expenses to get the bottom line. Not sure what it costs to run a Gameday. 100k?

I'm sure Lenoir Rhyne, Gardner Webb, or Catawba College would love to do a home and home.

We should have homes-and-homes with Wake and ECU in perpetuity. At least one game every few years.

Other's I'd like to see:
1. Duke
2. Navy
3. Memphis
4. Vandy
5. Any of the Florida G5s. UCF, USF, FAU, FIU. Ponce thrives recruiting in Florida and we can build some important pipelines there while he's with the program.

Who I want to see/also think are viable in the next ~5 years:

UCF
Cincinnati
Boise State
Navy
Army
Southern Miss (we owe them an L)
BYU
Memphis
SMU
La Tech
Western Michigan
Toledo

I’d like to see some P5’s, maybe something sort of random like Wazzu, Baylor or West Virginia.

But give me the premier G5 brands in the interim. Lots of strong, well respected programs there with good fan support that travel well and would be good SOS games at home or on the road.

Would be fun to see Ole Miss. The AD told me their AD was a close friend. It would be a great away game for the App fans, too.

Sure but you have to factor in travel expenses for away games at P5 schools as well. It isn't like we load up a bus and drive to every P5 school we play.

Not counterpointing you. But you raise a good point on expense with traveling. It would be good to see all figures associated with costs and revenue to determine the bottom lines.

I heard some guy on radio recently talking about concert venues and some promoter told him it takes about $1M to execute a large scale concert whether you sell one ticket or 25k tickets. So executing a football game has to be somewhere in the vicinity of that. You have large numbers for a team and supporting cast, travel, all the supporting staff for home venue, etc. etc. I don't know but assume that probably includes cost of facility, compare that to BOA game. If at our home we already have facility paid for.

Bottomline, there is a lot that goes into the logistics of a game and they aren't cheap.

That being said, if we put 35k butts in seat for every P5 that comes to KBS, that has to be better than Gardner Webb from a profitability standpoint.

Really don't know what the fixed cash outlay for a home game would be. App does a lot in-house that a concert promoter would contract for. I'm having trouble seeing $1M but I'm sure it's not cheap.

To get a full picture, you also have to consider the tradeoffs. IOW, it's not just comparing a home P5 game vs. a buy game.

A buy game is going to be our single biggest payday, yes. But it also almost always means hosting a buy game of our own vs. an FCS team in order to balance the schedule.

So in a H&H scenario, we get one road game (for which we are paid nothing) and one home game (for which we will have 35K in attendance and pay the opponent nothing).

In a buy game scenario, we get one road game (for which we are paid a lot) and one home game (for which we will have 20-25K in attendance and will pay the opponent for coming to us).

I agree with you that a concert promoter would have to pay for ALL cost, including rental of facility, whereas, App owns their facility and would have some staff/assets that would be leveraged. The point is, they have to be considered and will be required to pull it off so somewhere somehow these costs have to be covered and paid for by the Athletic Dept/University or other interested party even if they are not "out of pocket".
