Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
The demolition for the two dorms has begun and will take the rest of the year to complete. This will become a surface parking lot and should make for a great tailgating lot close to the stadium. We’ve got another year or two before all this construction wraps up on the west side.....for now

Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
So how many dorms or dorm rooms are going to replace all those demolished? What about dorms on what used to be the women's dorms side of campus? Hoey, etc?JPatH3292 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 10:35 amThe demolition for the two dorms has begun and will take the rest of the year to complete. Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
So many good memories in Gardner from my freshman year. Every game I attended after graduating I always looked up at room 615 on my way to the stadium. Sad to see them go.

If only they could time the detonation to the home opener kickoff...

Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
I got all the info from this site. I think the new dorm going up on the old justice site is the last new one planned for now. But all the new dorms are larger and actually add to the total number of beds on west side believe it or not.NewApp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 11:21 amSo how many dorms or dorm rooms are going to replace all those demolished? Bowie and Eggers will also come down at some point and be replaced with another surface parking lot. East is the only dorm on east side planning to be demolished at some point.

Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
So you are saying there will actually be more rooms after all thedorms are demolished and new ones built. If so, that is good to hear. Say, will that number include numbers to account for growth over the past few years compared to dorm space we had before growth or just replacement rooms??JPatH3292 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 12:55 pmI got all the info from this site. Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
My understanding is they can't do a detonation with these dorms. They will take them down floor by floor.

It’s all on the site linked for you. It’s in the first paragraph. The master plan gives lots of details. You should read it for yourself, it’s very detailed and well thought out.NewApp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 1:29 pmSo you are saying there will actually be more rooms after all thedorms are demolished and new ones built. Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
I think I read when the stadium lot dorms were starting that the net was going to be about 400 beds after all was said and done. I think the Bowie and Eggers area will become parking. I can't remember what the entire design/map showed but I remember something being posted on here a few years ago. It likely was a link from the appstate website. . Frank was renovated recently so those dorms are not going anywhere at this point.NewApp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 11:21 amSo how many dorms or dorm rooms are going to replace all those demolished? Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
When I got my room assignment to Gardner Hall in the summer of 06 I honestly contimplated switching my enrollment to ECU after spending freshman orientation in Gardner. But I sucked it up and moved into the third floor of Gardner Hall that fall; and that ended up being one of the best decisions I have ever made. Life long friends, stories I still tell today, lessons learned etc. I am so blessed to be able to say I got to stay in Gardner Hall!App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 11:55 amSo many good memories in Gardner from my freshman year. Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
If poor sweet Elrod is on this board I wish I could say we were sorry for making his life a nightmare as RD, but I can't. It was too much fun....oh and that wasn't tobacco in the microwave of the penthouse common area in the spring of 07.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 7:35 pmEl-Rod!!!NavyApp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 5:03 pmWhen I got my room assignment to Gardner Hall in the summer of 06 I honestly contimplated switching my enrollment to ECU after spending freshman orientation in Gardner. Re: Gardner and Coltrane are coming down
3rd floor of Coltrane back in ‘03-‘04. Man we gave the RA a hard time. Some incredible memories in that place, even if it felt like living in a coat closet. I remember both dorms coming together for watch parties for The Chappelle Show. Too many other good memories to post.
