Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
Even if they lose some members a move to the AAC would still be an upgrade. More well known programs, better public perception, better tv deal, better bowl game tie-ins. I would figure that's a no brainer.

Some or all of those things could be altered if some of those programs left. The TV deal would most certainly change. The bowl system could also change wherein ESPN picks and chooses the matchups. I’m not saying that it could happen, and I think that the points that you make are valid. I just think that we can’t make a decision based on the current landscape without taking into account that these two moves, should they happen, can change how we need to look at things going forward.

Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
Based on everything that’s floating around online, it seems if this is going to happen. How the chips fall for the Big 12 and all other conferences will be the really interesting part. Excited to see how it impacts App (hopefully in a positive way).
Could this ultimately lead to the regional conferences that we all know is the logical solution?

We’ll need to see how the Big12 responds before we know how it impacts the SBC.
We could see the Big 10 respond as well leaving the leftovers from the Big12 in jeopardy of keeping its “P5” status.
I think this is a bad decision for OU and Texas and will lead to a split of the SEC down the line.

There goes Texas once again thinking they're on the same caliber as a Notre Dame and mucking up the college landscape.

Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
And just like that, Conference realignment is back and it’s changing the landscape drastically this time.
4 super conferences in the SEC, ACC, Big 10 and Pac12. The big 12 gets poached. The 4 form their own playoff system where conference championships become de facto first round playoff games.
Remains to be seen how the G5 are affected other than being on the outside looking in. Regional conferences? Move to aac? More weekday games?!?!?

Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
This is my exact fear based on the fact that I don't think we get a 12 team playoff if we have 4 super conferences. I think it ends with the current G5 becoming a defacto FCS. Honestly not even sure those P4 super conferences would play any teams on the outside. I could easily see this leading to those 64 teams departing from the FBS for purposes of their own championship league because I highly doubt they get the votes (G5 and Notre Dame would have no reason to sign off on it) to have an 8 team playoff made up of just P4 teams that make their conference championship games. The more I think about the possible outcomes the more I think this is bad for college football as a whole and potentially really bad for App State and the other G5 teams who care about football.JPatH3292 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 1:14 pmAnd just like that, Conference realignment is back and it’s changing the landscape drastically this time.

Interested in your thoughts concerning the last statement. Why do you feel it cou”d lead to a split of the SEC and what is your vision of what that looks like?Saint3333 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 12:39 pmWe’ll need to see how the Big12 responds before we know how it impacts the SBC.

Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
My opinion is that there has to be a split - 16 teams with 8 to a division - there could be cross-division games

Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
When there can be only one conference champion that means 15 aren’t winning in their new world.
That isn’t sustainable for fanbases, wealthy alums, and eventually presidents and ADs.
Alabama and Texas will be on a collision course from day one.
History will become the future. At one point the Southern conference was 20 teams and we have a blueprint of how that ended.

Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
But if they get several teams in the hunt for the National Championship it does take some sting off not being conference champions - Texas has a ways to go to challenge Alabama, as well as LSU, UGA, FLA, Auburn and others - A&M is clearly a better program than Texas right now ---

Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
This isn’t creating a P4 and leftovers. It’s creating a Super League and leftovers.
Yes, Ohio State and Clemson still exist. But make no mistake, this is a power play by the SEC. Add Texas and OU and 14 of the last 20 national champs come from the SEC.
Hell you can go real crazy and imagine a situation where the SEC dumps the NCAA, breaks off completely and says “whoever wins the SEC is the national champ”.

You're kidding yourselves if you don't think ADs across the country knew this was happening. This isn't a surprise to any AD. I can assure you an event like this has been talked about and planned for in every athletic department across the country.

Agree. If they weren’t planning for it, then they aren’t very good at their jobs.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 2:32 amYou're kidding yourselves if you don't think ADs across the country knew this was happening. Re: Oklahoma and Texas to SEC???
I wonder how much this will affect out of conference scheduling going forward aka our big money games with the big P5s. We have South Carolina scheduled out to 2032 I think
