Back in September, it was allegedly leaked that Marshall, SOuthern Miss, ODU and JMU were invited by Sunbelt. If it’s true that Marshall and Southern Miss join, why not ODU and JMU? Perhaps they were backup in case Georgia State and Coastal left? If so, we ended up in a really good scenario.
I don’t think that those with voting rights are OK with going to 14.

We get more money per team if we stay at 12....bigger piece of the pie.
Yes. I’m sure that factors into the decision.

I’ve never been a proponent of adding JMU or Liberty, but a Marshall/USM/JMU/Liberty scenario would be wild and a lot more fun than weak CUSA leftovers. Plus, it would be smart to have these extra teams in the fold, should AAC come calling after Memphis and SMU bolt. The Belt didn’t get to where it is today without taking chances. #Funbelt

Based on what the AAC backfilled with, would you still find it more desirable than the Sun Belt?

Yup haha. Everyone wants to claim "sources". If these guys are actually right and hearing things, it still won't be official for a little while longer. The CUSA to AAC schools are confirmed by national outlets but won't be able to claim "official" status until the press conference after the AAC board and individual school boards sign off on everything, probably at the end of this week.

I’m sure where there’s smoke, there’s fire, but I haven’t seen any real flames yet.

The flames will be coming from the carcass of CUSA, though.
Give 'em hell!

From a football standpoint, not really.
I’d just hope that better football translates into more money and better bowl tie-ins. It would make little sense for a 6-6 Concord or Rice to play an SEC team, while a 10-2 App or UL to have to play a 7-5 MAC team.

I believe that it would. As long as you produce ratings that justify the money, there is always room to renegotiate. As for the better bowls, if you are talking about opponents, then I can understand that. I just think that will all work itself out over time.

We're never going to the AAC. They want big markets for better or for worse. Boone will never be that even though our football program has more fans and more passionate fans than all those schools they just added. I'd like to add Western Kentucky and LA Tech though over some FCS schools or online school Liberty.

Conference really isn’t complete without a hatable ugly purple team. And we will be able to bring up Miracle on the Mountain II every year. Bring em on.

Per reliable sources, USM and Marshall to Sunbelt. SBC won’t add anyone else.

Mountaineers getting a new conference rivalry game.

The battle for the East in the Sunbelt will be fought between:

App State
Georgia Southern
Marshall
Georgia State
Coastal Carolina
Troy

USM and Marshall to SBC seems imminent. Personally, I don’t expect any others added at this point. Rumors also that UTA and Little Rock are gone.
I hope certain elements of our fans will take into account how tough it will be to win a division like this most years. Especially if the Stink can get their act back together and Chadwell sticks around foe awhile. The “Fire the Coach” crowd is going to need a shot of reality.

Oh there's definitely smoke and I'm most certain of fire it's just not "official" yet. But this afternoon more news reports point to the official part coming in days.

What I just read says Marshall and ODU are waiting to see if CUSA can add JMU and Liberty. If so, they stay CUSA and USM will be joining SBC. Not sure how solid the source is.

That seems poor forward thinking if so. You could join a rising conference with 3 of those and not be attached to Liberty. Or stay with a failing conference with Liberty at the helm.

I agree. I think it's more ODU. They're very concerned with travel and money. CUSA does seem be a sinking ship.

They have more followers than BGP. Not saying more followers makes you more trustworthy or more plugged in, but if BGP made a similar statement you’d probably take it as gospel.

If this is the case, I don’t see this ending well for Marsha. It wouldn’t surprise me at all, if JMWho gets an invite if Marsha says no to the SBC.

Anish Shroff read Pete Thamel’s tweet during the broadcast last night re: Marshall, USM, ODU and JMU.

If ODU is the price we have to pay to get Marshall and we can offset that cost with JMU I think the SB overall comes out very well.

UNCC grad here. UNCC Athletics department just sent out the email about joining ACC. While I would love App to play ECU and UNCC every year, I wish UNCC went to the Sun Belt.

BTW I follow App since my daughter (and money) goes to App :D
