The report that I read said the remaining 8 schools would be paid according to the existing contract, which is actually not an equal share to each school, and the 6 incoming schools will receive about 1/3 of the average payout of the existing schools. Apparently, they plan to use the exit fees from the departing members to prop up the payments to the remaining members. On top of that, outlets are reporting that the AAC is still keeping it's same tv deal somehow. But even if it got cut to like $3M that's still more than the SB. There's also the exit fees from the 3 Big 12 schools that will be split among the remaining AAC teams. Might as well stick around for that money. Only once it becomes 100% certain that there's no more tickets left to the P5 in any way should schools like ECU and SMU consider a G5 to G5 change.
Thanks, so in your opinion, do you think the 6 schools moving to the AAC will be elevated to the level of the current AAC over time or do you think that the remaining strong programs, Memphis, Tulsa, SMU will be lowered down to the level of the 6 newbies? It can be a bit of both but really, the success is in the individual schools hands. Even if the conference isn't what it used to be. But the AAC (and the SBC) have something CUSA doesn't have...ESPN.
