Best college football city in NC
Listening to the afternoon radio show out of Raleigh and they are discussing an ESPN article that listed the best college football cities in each state. They listed Boone (no kidding) as the best in NC. Looking forward to reading the article.

Having been to games at all major institutions in NC I can say that Boone is the only place where football is all consuming for both the school and town on game day.
ECU and NCSU have great tailgate scenes but neither consume the town on Saturdays and create that special atmosphere.

No better feeling than waiting in either Bojangles line for 45 minutes just to get food for the tailgate.. Boone wins this one hands down

Re: Best college football city in NC
This is the biggest no brainer around. What other towns/cities in North Carolina can honestly even be considered a football town/city? Durham, Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greenville... I mean all of those places have something to offer, it just isn't FOOTBALL. Boone is clearly the tops of North Carolina college football towns and it's not even close.

Those other schools are essentially the bluest of the blue blood college football towns. Talk about good company to keep. Only G5 school listed on that bracket says something to the average fan that has never had the pleasure of taking in a game at the Rock.AppWyo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 2:47 pmhttps://www.shell.us/motorist/fuelyourfandom.html this is the link to the Contest. Back in the day, EZU FB was all consuming. That was all there was there.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 12:34 pmHaving been to games at all major institutions in NC I can say that Boone is the only place where football is all consuming for both the school and town on game day.

To the casual CFB fan I'd say we have national recognition but not much more. Hell there isn't much state wide brand strength considering all the UNC and NCSU fans.Captain Morgan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 5:32 pmwow. If we can keep winning and increase donations that will change.

Disagree strongly. App alums are as vocal about their alma mater as any other university out there. Hell, I see more app stickers in CLT, WS, Greensboro than any other school. I live in Raleigh and only see more NCSU stickers than App.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 12:10 pmTo the casual CFB fan I'd say we have national recognition but not much more. Boone, N.C. vs. Oxford, Miss.
Why Boone is a great college town: It isn't easy to get to the home of Appalachian State, but visitors are greeted by breathtaking views of the Appalachian Mountains once they're there. Few college towns in America offer more for students to do than Boone, which sits in North Carolina's High Country. With skiing at nearby slopes in the winter, whitewater rafting in the summer, and hiking and camping in between, Boone is one of the most popular outdoor destinations on the East Coast. The Blue Ridge Parkway offers students an easy route for weekend getaways. And the Mountaineers aren't bad at football, either. Just ask Michigan. -- Mark Schlabach
