Using your analogy of high expectations. If goals and expectations aren’t met, does your boss just point a finger at one seemingly glaring issue and blame it all on that. Or, is there a systemic route cause analysis to determine if those failed expectations represent a major issue that needs to be addressed or if there is something that needs to be tweaked? Or does he just go bat spit crazy and fire everyone.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:55 pmSo why is it okay to "throw out" our performance in the game against one of the best teams on our schedule in 2021? There is no question that WKU was absolutely the best bowl opponent we have faced since moving to FBS yet you are perfectly willing to disregard our performance in that game. How does that reconcile with us wanting to be the best program we can? I don't care how many straight bowl games we have won. Those are all in the past and didn't have any influence on this game.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:45 pmLook - and this is my opinion - throw out any discussions of the WKU game when talking about our 2021 season as a whole. I would disagree that WKU was our best bowl opponent - they were a 5 loss CUSA runner-up, after all. Otherwise, agree with you.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:55 pmSo why is it okay to "throw out" our performance in the game against one of the best teams on our schedule in 2021? He was my first thought too, but I was a little surprised to see that he's apparently never coached OL.

Re: 2022 App State Coaching Updates
By Clark's own admission last week, App State Football failed to reach its goals this past season and went 0-2 in championship games. It's perfectly acceptable to re-evaluate and in college football, there's a thin line between promotions and firings. Sometimes it isn't fair and good people get fired. That's the business.
Personally, I felt the decision making on how many touches each RB got and which RB was in for certain situations was very suspect this past season and needs to change. I'd like to have a true RB1, no matter who it is.
In my opinion, if the coaches feel like what they did at RB last season was OK and go with that in 2022, then I question their commitment to meet the high expectations Clark espouses every press conference.

Re: 2022 App State Coaching Updates
The goal every game is to run the ball 40 times. That’s a lot to ask of a true RB1, which I believe would be Noel. If you go back to 2020. During the Coastal game they pounded Peoples in the first half and were quite successful. The problem was that he had no gas for the second half.T-Dog wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 2:01 pmBy Clark's own admission last week, App State Football failed to reach its goals this past season and went 0-2 in championship games. Re: 2022 App State Coaching Updates
Ironically, the one that we beat the worst - 2017 Toledo, who was 11-2, MAC champions and in the top 30 of both major polls entering the game.
Obviously I'm basing it on the full season, not just the bowl game.

Re: 2022 App State Coaching Updates
I really don't recall how Toledo finished out their season, but WKU was on a seven game winning streak before losing in the CUSA game in a shoot out. The way the Hilltoppers were playing to finish the season, in my mind, made the most dangerous team, if not the best, bowl team we played.

Re: 2022 App State Coaching Updates
I look at wins and losses of our bowl games. We won all of them before this year. Were the teams we played significantly better than us on paper in prior years? I am not sure they were. We were better than them that day we played. We got a taste of our own slogan this year...we got bombed over Bagdad....and then some. So, for me, WKU was the best opponent in a bowl game.
We can have reasons why if want to analyze it say preparation was poor, game planning was poor, Gameday execution was poor, TOs killed us....or whatever the reason...Coaches will figure that out. At the end of the day, we got beat handily.
So that makes WKU the best team we played in a bowl game. Just my opinion.

I agreeAppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 9:44 amI’m pretty much of the same opinion on Cardwell.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 9:40 amI have seen questions thrown out about Cardwell at OL coach, and last year I felt this might have been an issue (learning curve) but I don't think the OL was an issue this year. I'm FAR from an expert so I cannot say how talented Cardwell is at OL coach, but I do believe he's a good coach and I know our HC knows a thing or two about coaching OL so I'll trust him to make this decision. None of that is to say that some of the above ideas aren't good ones. I just don't think there is an urgent need for a different OL coach.

Re: 2022 App State Coaching Updates
That's a bit misleading, I think they finished the season 8-0 or something. They were a different team by the end of the year.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 1:29 pmI would disagree that WKU was our best bowl opponent - they were a 5 loss CUSA runner-up, after all. We played so lousy and uninspired it's really hard to draw any conclusions about the opponent except that they kicked our ass.

Re: 2022 App State Coaching Updates
Best opponent and best matchup might be 2 totally different things. Toledo may have been a better team on paper, but the WKU QB and a couple of their receivers paired with App's suddenly thin secondary was obviously a nightmare
