Re: RIP Joe Parker
Was at all the App home games in 75. My wife is an ECU graduate but got K-6 certification at ASU. She now loves ASU. Joe Parker kicked the most perfect spiral on a consistent basis I have ever seen. The key to his punting was that he dropped the ball the same on his foot almost every time. He kept East Carolina backed up all night with his long booming punts. Hope to meet you in Heaven Joe Parker.

Re: RIP Joe Parker
It was definitely 1975. 1973 = 3-7-1; 1974 = 6-5, beat ECU on Jerry Harmon's FG. Going into 1975 Joe was picked Playboy A-A and was on the cover.
This link is a 'Bama site but the first picture tells it all. #9 on the front row. Notice no Yosef on the helmet yet.https://www.rollbamaroll.com/2016/5/28/ ... il-kickoff
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Thanks for the plug. I do remember it well and it was '75 as you have documented above. That was the first year
that really put App State on the map of serious college football. The '75 season's success, unfortunately, led to the loss of several tremendous assistant coaches who were poached away with promises of higher salaries. Their
eventual replacements could not sustain the team's '75 level of play. By the '80 season, it became clear that Coach B's replacement wasn't "working." It took three years of growing pains to make a course correction with the hiring of (first) Mack Brown and a year later after Mack's departure (Sparky Woods). The two of them are credited for turning things around during the 80s--making way for Jerry Moore. The rest of the story sort of speaks for itself.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Re: RIP Joe Parker
'75 was the last year I got to see all of the games I desired..home and away. Was quite fortunate and blessed to see all three big wins..Wake, USC, and ECU. Got to talk to Jerry Harmon after the winning FG and he actually remembered me from a long term sub gig for all their favorite history teacher, Dr Greene.
Precious memories. Starting the next year I was unfortunate to move to the athletic gig at my high school. Had a pass for all college or high school games in NC and some SC. Seldom got to use it because of conflicts or being burned out of football each week.
