Great crowd, great food and program. Coach Sap. and Charlie Cobb spoke. High light of program to me was video with comments from CC, Brad Wilson,, the Sun Belt Comish., and a number of our coaches.

Info handed out included bullet points for stadium improvement:
A North End Zone seating $8,000,000
B South End Zone scoreboard relocation $300,000
C East seating expansion $6,800,000
D Media center/Control Room Enhancements $500,000

Other related:
1 Track Relocation $5,000,000
2 Turf Replacement $1,000,000

Interesting Point: All pictures of proposed upgrades included dorm complex. This was also verified by a comment by Charlie Cobb

It IS great to be a MOUNTAINEER

Do you have a scanner, per chance?

I can't make it to any of the tour stops.

I'm going to the May 1 stop in Clemmons, so I guess I may hear about it then. But did they give dates on when they expect to start with the expansion?

Awesome info, thanks for the update!

Those numbers seem about right, adding up to $21.6M. The Campaign for Appalachian was to set aside $50M of the $200M for athletics, with $25M going to scholarships and $25M to facilities. That would leave $3.4M for other facilities projects. No surprise that football gets the lion's share. I'd love to see a chunk of that go to expand/upgrade Smith Stadium.

Only thing that seems odd is the $1M for turf replacement. Does anyone know whether that would be required with the extra seating/track relocation? That turf was just installed in 2011.

Yeah, I thought that was odd as well. Assuming they start the project before 2015, thats 3-4 years of the current turf. Is that really necessary when we take the track out? Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about it because I hate the endzones of the new turf, but it just seems like some short-sighted planning a few years ago.

5 mil also seems a little steep for a t&f complex.

I imagine that land prep would cost a ton, also the amount may include the cost of the land. I could easily see reaching $5m for a track facility.

Same thought I came home with. Nothing specific about total seating capacity after improvements.

Off to Merlfest

That's a lot of aluminum. Would it not hang over Stadium Dr?

Not sure. But spending nearly 7 million on a puny triple deck on the East side just seems like another way to do things wrong. I really wish they would just tear down that side and start over once the track is relocated.

I'm certainly no expert but the $6.8M pricetag would seem to indicate that they plan to do more than just add a third deck. I could be off but it doesn't seem like it would cost anywhere near that much.

Or at least bowl it in or something. There is no reason to have a triple deck on that side. It would look ridiculous IMO.

The render of the endzone/fieldhouse/dorm looks amazing though. As long as it doesn't block the view of Howard's knob, I'm very excited to see that portion come to fruition.

Well, now, at least, our fans will have something else to complain about.

Now Mike, you know what the turf replacement is about. T-Dog broke the story back on the 1st about our new turf. ;)
