We will see. Hopefully it is something beyond our control because if someone at App messed it up that looks really bad on the department.

Definitely not a cyber attack. Looking at the WHOIS of the domain, it expired 8/3. GoDaddy has a policy to keep it active for a couple of days for certain organizations so we didn't see it go down right away. GoDaddy (and all registrars by law) have a grace period. I believe GoDaddy's is 45 days. It has since been renewed, but my guess is the expiration messed with their Nameserver settings from the host and they are working to get those fixed.

I wouldn't put all the onus on our athletic department. I would assume this is managed/controlled by Leerfield/IMG

Whatever the issue, it seems the entire department is in some level of disarray

FYI, I checked and the domain goasu.com is for sale if we wanted it back. LOL

Inexcusable.

I have dealt with GoDaddy several times in the past for issue's with websites I manage and have always found them very helpful and easy to work with. When the payment was sent in for the expired domain they had the domain active again within a few hours. You would think that whoever handles the domain registration (be it ASU or IMG/Learfield) there would be several people with access to the passwords needed to take care of an issue like this.

It's unconscionable. And it's always something. As our football program, facilities, fan base etc all move into the upper echelon of college sports, our booster/athletics staff continue to exemplify the Appalachian stereotype of being unsophisticated rubes.

Apparently, the individual who was responsible for the payment is no longer here and thus the current admin was caught unaware. I guess the notification went to an address that is no longer current at App.

I heard that as well. So, we are going to now put in a protocol to make sure the trademark and all goes through a department-based admin but they did not do this last time? I get the explanation but it still looks bad.

Yeah, exactly, It's an explanation but it's not a good one.

Make a common email like admin@appstate.edu. Register any recurring registration things with that and any new person that gets hired takes over that email. This stuff is really not that difficult.

Honestly, it is hard to make up some of the ways that App shoots itself in the foot on a repeated basis. Just makes no sense.

My school installed a few hand sanitizer dispensers for Covid reasons. We don't have school system custodians in my school so I volunteered to keep an eye on the refills. We have no more refills so I took the face of the dispenser off so everyone would not try using the dispensers and possibly break the dispensers trying to force something out that is not there to be forced out. (These are teenagers.) Literally today, I was pointing out where I placed the dispenser faces to someone else just in case I was not there one day and someone went looking. Even something that insignificant I thought was worthy of me letting someone else know what was going on. And they can't have two people on top of this. Not good.

We can pretend we have someone keeping up with the registration payments. From 5 August.

100%. We also pay crap compared to other top 40 programs so it’s hard to keep good people.

I'm pretty sure lesson was learned. This was something that was done prior to this administration.

Why the heck didn't we just stay with goasu.com? Shorter to type and we never had trouble with it...that I can recall. I know, I know, Arizona State and Arkansas State. That's no excuse.
