So uncc gets $25MM taxpayer money to expand a stadium they can’t even fill up with no strings attached but we can’t issue debt for an indoor facility we need. Unbelievable.311neers wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:56 amhttps://x.com/murphsturph/status/175054 ... 3hJ5cku44g

Insisting this project was fully funded fifteen months ago remains the most unbelievable thing I have ever read here. All based on a rendering.

Re: EXPANDING STADIUM TO 40k CAPACITY
Someone heard something off Stadium Dr and ran with an assumption when all the other actions everyone could see were counter to that.
I wouldn’t say it’s the most unbelievable thing I’ve read here though, happens quite often. Fun to discuss these types of rumors as fans and everyone was hopeful the rumor was accurate.
It will get built as long as our fanbase signs up for the seats, should generate a good amount of revenue.

This reminds me of DOT highway expansion projects in smaller towns/cities:BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 2:48 pmSo uncc gets $25MM taxpayer money to expand a stadium they can’t even fill up with no strings attached but we can’t issue debt for an indoor facility we need. Interesting. Indoor facility on Hold.
- NCDOT rolls out the expansion plans with great fanfare, then
- Nothing happens for decades because the larger cities always get funding priority

Re: EXPANDING STADIUM TO 40k CAPACITY
App has a nine-figure facility that doesn't have one blueprint or any requests for proposals/qualifications fully funded, yet is having to take out $25M in bonds for the indoor practice facility. Makes total sense.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 10:20 amInsisting this project was fully funded fifteen months ago remains the most unbelievable thing I have ever read here. The only thing I can think of is that App believes the project can fund itself once space is rented and premium seats are bought.

It was never true. I pointed that out several times. I would love to see the East side done, but I was and am concerned about taking on so much debt.

Re: EXPANDING STADIUM TO 40k CAPACITY
George Holmes finally got "official" support in 1995 for Holmes Convocation Center, but the process started in 1989, with handshake agreements starting in 1991-92 academic year and the administration knowing it was going to get approved. Ground breaking didn't happen until 1997. Would have been 1994 but things happened (environmental concerns near the original location which is near where the expanded indoor facility is now).
Just sayin'...
I have zero knowledge of this project (but was heavily involved in HCC), but do know several former athletes were told the state has agreed to fund the project. When or how, I have no idea. But I do know the states funding is a slow process -- especially when helping anybody that isn't baby blue.

The delay, based on tweet was for the IPF. Not the east side. These are two separate projects.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 12:25 pmIt was never true. I pointed that out several times. I would love to see the East side done, but I was and am concerned about taking on so much debt.

Next years GA looks to be the most App State supportive in my time. And I have been told that there have been conversations about moving this , and other projects along.

Guessing by "next year" you mean 2025, which would be a long session where most of the state budgeting gets done?

UNC-C may not be able to fill it up, but WE filled it up FOR them the first time we played there (Jerry Richardson Stadium).BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 2:48 pmSo uncc gets $25MM taxpayer money to expand a stadium they can’t even fill up with no strings attached but we can’t issue debt for an indoor facility we need.
