Yeah, a lot of folks worry a lot about that it seems. The fact is that, the average sports fan is a highlight specialist and our highlights from 2022 include a win over Texas A&M, a shoot out against UNC and a national highlight Hail Mary win against Troy (eventual SBC champ). It was a disappointing season for App fans, but nobody has forgotten us. It will take more than one bad season to dim our national light. Obviously, we don't need to test how many it would take, but App remains a program with a tradition of winning and beating giants in the minds of the nation.

Some of care less about what national pundits care about and more about the quality of the football played.
Commence explaining to those fans how last season was a success if you must.
Looking forward to putting the program back on an upward track this season.

We have not lost our national brand YET but we are still trying to stay on an “upward” trajectory with our program. We have hit a bump on that path for last couple of years and don’t want to start living as a middle of pack G5. That is why folks are concerned. Myself, I am very optimistic based on the off-season staffing changes. We knew the course corrections may be required as SC was a new HC. He has had some setbacks but I still think if this gamble (SC) works then App wins big in the long run.
I like seeing us on the national scene like this article.

#2 of 10. Not bad. LSU and Alabama will be a good one too. But go ahead and spin it negative. I enjoyed last season and will do the same this year.

Talking with very casual observers of App State football, here were their comments:
"You guys had a great year, beating A&M"
"That game yall had the hail mary was an awesome finish, didn't yall beat A&M too? Almost beat Chapel Hill"
"You guys finished with what, 10 or 11 wins?"
So yes, we're fine for now. We need a good year this season though.

Let me say it another way, we got the most bang for the buck last year. We showed best for the games that got the most visibility.
So when folks on this board always ask would you rather beat a Texas A&M or Ga Southern, last year demonstrates which win gets you the most value from a Nation Brand perspective.

Yearning for acceptance from the ignorant is about the least mountaineer thing I’ve read on here.
We know what success looks like and don’t need validation from those that would rather look down upon us than lift us up.
The off-season brings hope and the hard work during this time will breed results. Stay hungry young men!

Re: 10 Most Anticipated Rematches of the 2023 College Football Season
I wonder if Montana State fans are ok with losing to South Dakota State in the semifinals because at least they got the exposure of Game Day this year.
I wonder if Jackson State fans think back to when Game Day came to town, and forget about the perfect season that ended to NCCU.
I bet some didn't even know until this post that those schools even hosted Game Day this past year. Point is, it doesn't mean as much as some of you'd like to think. App State was an established brand before beating an extremely over rated Texas A&M team, or the Hail Mary, and it's due to continued winning. You think people still look at Boise State the way they do if all they had were a hook and ladder, statue of liberty highlights in an upset over Oklahoma? It's the winning that keeps you relevant long term.

Fair points, but the first thing they remember is the Hook and Ladder, Statue of Liberty and the upset over Oklahoma. We need to keep winning and keep doing things that are memorable (in a positive way)./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 7:34 pmI wonder if Montana State fans are ok with losing to South Dakota State in the semifinals because at least they got the exposure of Game Day this year.

There's one G5 team on this list.

Re: 10 Most Anticipated Rematches of the 2023 College Football Season
Some haven't caught on yet as to the reason why several of us comment positively on the "national coverage" is because some posters were bemoaning all the negative effects of this past season with "losing our national brand" as one of their prime complaints. I'll say this as clearly as I can - My comments have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of play in '22 or the what might happen in '23 and going forward. They are not excuses, they are not rose-colored glasses, they are strictly confined to "National perception" ---

Do you think the coaches are slapping hands with players this off-season celebrating hosting game day?
No, they are facing reality and challenging them to get better.

Let me add to your point. I can be disappointed with our overall ‘22 season while appreciating the good things that did occur. It was not all bad. We had some very good highs this past season. Actually some of the highest highs ever as a program.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 9:14 pmSome haven't caught on yet as to the reason why several of us comment positively on the "national coverage" is because some posters were bemoaning all the negative effects of this past season with "losing our national brand" as one of their prime complaints. Don't tell Saint that - he'll go on about how he has supported this team since the days Daniel Boone built his restaurant by hand and how it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks -
I'll repeat this just for him -
