Fewer commercials = less revenue = less TV exposure. It’s agonizing when attending in person, but necessary if we want to get paid by ESPN. I know y’all know that but worth noting.

So based on these changes how many fewer plays will be in a game?

I think we typically run about 60-80 offensive plays a game
Right now the median for CFB is 67 offensive plays per game. The median for the NFL is 60. I really prefer the CFB to the watered down NFL where you often see 4 series in a half for an offense

Last year's 63-61 game against UNC and the Troy Hail Mary victory would not happen under the proposed rules. The only rule I would adopt from the NFL is the Down by Contact rule. I hate seeing a player's knee touch the turf catching a punt or someone slip with no one within 5 yards and being called down.

I remember many years ago when I taped a game on my VCR to watch later. It was great to zip through the downtime and the commercials. I think I watched an entire game in about 15 actual minutes. It was amazing how much actual action there was in an entire football game. That 3rd quarter of the Citadel game was agonizing for me last year. I think we ran 1 offensive play the entire quarter. Perhaps a rule needs to be that if a college football team only throws 1 forward pass in a quarter (while trailing) they must forfeit their game check!

Whatever happens, you know ESPN will engineer it so they don't lose money.

And in a somewhat related take, the biggest reason I'm happy college/pro football are over?
I don't have to see Jake from State Farm and Patrick Mahomes anymore...or Progressive or GEICO, for that matter.
Their ads obviously got thru to you as you are still thinking about those stupid ads and their company names.
Yes. In the same way one thinks about having COVID or Amoebic Dystentery.

I should have said, "You are still trying to get those ads out of your head".

Here's an interesting possible ripple effect. Sub-D2 games, which already don't have media timeouts in 99% of games due to not being on TV, would be made even shorter.

In terms of impact to ESPN, this would mean fewer impressions and more expensive ad rates for their advertisers.
I know little about broadcast media (OK, I know nothing except how to turn on the TV) so not sure what impact this would have on the Mothership.
