River Street Parking Deck question

Unread post by NattyBumppo'sRevenge » Thu Oct 05, 2023 2:10 pm

I’ve secured parking for Tuesday night’s game and have only parked there on one other occasion but didn’t tailgate there. Are you permitted to grill and use a propane stove in the parking deck?

I think only if you have roof parking.

That makes sense, do you know when the lot opens for gameday parking?

I park in River street deck and people are cooking something on all levels. Get to the third level early and tailgate there. There are several spaces facing the street that are not covered by the next level. You need a River street roof parking pass to get on the top level. GameDay parking info will be found here at some point or call the number listed 828-262-2878 if you want to know when you can get in. https://parking.appstate.edu/visitors-e ... ay-parking

Thanks! They said tailgating starts at 4, but I could probably access the lot anytime after 12.

Parking lots do not open until 4 due to classes per the Yosef Club email.

From the email:

“Please know, all parking lots will open at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10th for the Coastal Carolina home football game. With classes in session this day, please do not arrive before 4 p.m. Plan accordingly.”

Sounds like you MAY have spoke to someone who wasn’t in the loop.

The Rivers Street Deck is a pay deck for the general public, so theoretically one could arrive there, pay to park and not get towed. Now, how open they will be to someone breaking out a table, grill and groceries is another matter.

I do not believe so on GameDays. It is a yosef club granted parking lot depending on donation level, correct?

I think I’m just gonna show up around 3 and see what happens. I don’t need to get my gear out until 4 if that’s an issue. Someone mentioned a special pass required for rooftop, that’s interesting

BRA: True. They may restrict it after noon, or something like that to clear the deck.

Now, NBR, if you do get there early enough you should be able to get one of the open air spots on the third floor, which is as good as roof access. It's a pretty neat spot of about 30-40 spaces.

Remember to back into your space in a deck. It makes it infinitely easier to get out after the game.

There's a special pass required for rooftop on all lots and they're a lot more expensive due to the open air above you. But, like others have said, Rivers is unique in that the 3rd floor is essentially the same and doesn't require a special pass, but everyone who tailgates there gets there EARLY to secure those spots.

The EARLY part is where I’m lost. There is uncertainty if you can access before 4.

I’m planning to bring my Smokey Joe and gas stove. Do you foresee that being an issue on the 3rd floor? If so, is there space outside the lot I could setup?

Not a problem at all in the open area of the 3rd floor, people cooking there all the time. People tailgate in the grassy area in front of the deck too so if you really got caught in a pinch you could grill out there.

For what it's worth, I've seen people gas grill in the corner covered spots all the time too and they've never seemed to have had an issue. I think as long as you're not literally in the middle of the deck trying to grill, you'll be fine.
