First Third Stats

Some interesting national stats in the first third of the season:
Much improved from last year:
- 12th in penalties, 15 total for 130, HUGE improvement!
- 36th in 3rd down conversions at 47%
- 9th TOP, 33 minutes
Improved:
- 20th sacks allowed, 1.0 spg
- 36th TO margin, +0.5
- 12th KO returns, 27 ypr
- 35th scoring offense, 35 ppg
- 58th sacks per game, 2.25 (Marshall first at 5!)
Needs Improvement:
- 78th RZ defense, 86%
- 91st RZ offense, 78%
- 84th defense, 28 ppg (skewed by 21 points scored off offense and ST)
- 85th 3rd down defense, 42%
Misleading somewhat:
- 106th KO return defense 23 ypr
Really comes down to execution on both sides in the red zone.

Obviously skewed by the UNC game but we rank 111th in run defense. ULM is not very productive on offense but they are 21st in rush offense, we are 22nd.

Skewed by three long runs this season (two vs. UNCCH and one vs. WYO), note that ULM has a burner in Hunter Smith that averages 10 ypc, can't let him get loose.

Like Wyo we have to make ULM beat us through the air it seems.
