I did not see Troy play them, but 14-16 score.GSUwasGump’sFallbackSchool wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 10:17 amThis. Their run stopping production is so absurd on paper that it’s hardly believable. Then you watch the tape and it makes sense.
I watch their pass rush and my mind gets flashbacks of what that stellar Denver Broncos’ unit did to Cam and the entire AFC in that 2015 playoff run. Nightmare fuel. I figured Southern would be their first tough test with their offensive schemes, and they certainly were not.

when I've watched JMU I've seen a mature, disciplined, business-like mannerism from all players and coaches. No hoopla, minimal celebrations...they just go out and do their jobs and follow the game plan.

I watched that. Troy had a couple chances, but kicker missed a FG to put them ahead, and then they kinda bumbled away a chance of a walkoff FG. That was two teams with similars strengths vs Southern who seemed to have vastly different strengthsBlack Saturday wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 11:53 amI did not see Troy play them, but 14-16 score.GSUwasGump’sFallbackSchool wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 10:17 amThis. Re: JMU v Marshall Game
I wonder why lots of coaches allow the overcelebration to happen. Some of it seems stupid based wasteful on the play and makes wonder how an athlete can focus on the next play with the energy just spent on the minutia of an incomplete pass, etc.

Re: JMU v Marshall Game
I think one can say we are a few plays away from being 5-1 or 6-0 while not saying we are a great team. We can be undefeated now and still need a lot of improvements. The point is we are close to a better record but our team has not figured out how to eliminate critical mistakes and finish strong enough to get the W every time.GSUwasGump’sFallbackSchool wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 10:35 amLook, that line of thought is ridiculous. Especially when we are literally a single miracle play at ULM from 2-4. If this team is close to being really good, then they are closer to being terrible. Our 3 victories come against teams with a grand total of…1 FBS win.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 10:18 amYES!!! APPsolutely correct! The haters will say "with the same logic we could be 0-6" but when you really look at how the games went we are 3 mistakes/plays away from being 5-1. This team reminds me so much of the 2014 & 2017 teams...lots of young talent that needed to learn how to win.

Actually, last night I thought they displayed a big of thugish behavior by constantly standing over Marshall players on the ground. In fact, near games end after a fourth down stop one of the players that did a little celebration got an extended talking to by one of his coaches. But, no question they are an active, harassing defense.

Probably did help JMU with Marshall's QB apparently injured and their RB out for this game.AppState89 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 11:39 amAnd Marshall as a team to -4 yards rushing.

Ali is quickly having one of the odder careers I’ve followed of top flight G5 players. Missing all last season to a mysterious circumstance, their backup being incredible, but then him immediately showing out when playing again.biggie wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 1:19 pmProbably did help JMU with Marshall's QB apparently injured and their RB out for this game.AppState89 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 11:39 amAnd Marshall as a team to -4 yards rushing.

Go pick your man up from Norfolk, boy. You can cheer him on as a offensive line coach for a WV Highschool team.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 11:32 amGo suck some lemons Gump and stew in your negativity. If you don't see the growth and potential of this team then you don't know football, you don't care about this program and you don't understand how college football works.

Re: JMU v Marshall Game
We may lose, but nobody has done that to us yet and I doubt anybody does. We will most likely be in every single game until the last second ticks off on the clock. How many go in our favor is yet to be determined but even for an optimist like myself it is getting hard to see many future wins on the schedule this year.

Re: JMU v Marshall Game
It took a few longer but they lost and quickly fell out. We got ranked in week 7 in 2019 and fell out in week 11. We have been ranked 10 weeks in FBS since moving up in 2014. JMU has so far been ranked 2 weeks since moving up last year and if they win out they should have 9 weeks ranked, just one less than us.

I hope they are ranked and undefeated [they would have to be , to still be ranked] when we go up there and beat them.

Re: JMU v Marshall Game
JMU came into FBS at full strength unlike App who came in off of a slump. If we had transitioned in 2008 or 2009 it would have been interesting. JMU also has both the benefit (and the challenge) of coming into a stronger SunBelt schedule which helps in the rankings given their wins. I'm not trying to discount their accomplishment but we didn't run the same race so direct comparisons don't make much sense. Also, because of COVID exceptions, JMU has had the benefit of an increased roster for couple of years coming into their transition and has had the advantage of the portal to ramp up. It's impressive but not the same ramping up process that App had to go through. I hope they are ranked when we play them and we kick their purple asses.
