Optimism abounds with two weeks until the kickoff. What are you thoughts over/under on various metrics compared to last year:
Wins - 9 - lean over not to be fence sitter
Points - 465 (33ppg) - under
Points Allowed - 378 (27ppg) - under
1st quarter points - 67 - random I know, but over
Home Att. Avg. - 34,734 - under
Rushing yards - 2,408 - over
Rushing TDs - 23 - over
Passing yards - 3,830 - under
Passing TDs - 34 - under
3rd down % - 42% - under
3rd down def % - 40% - under (less than 40%)
4th down attempts - 29 - under
Sacks - 35 - under
Def INTs - 15 - over

If we aren't over on the win total I think there would be a lot of pressure on Shawn. I would set the over/under at 10 and if you include the postseason I am expecting 11 or more based on talent, if we stay healthy.

Sorry not clear on my post. The over/under lines are last year's actuals not my predictions or anything formal.

I did realize that. With Aguilar back and all the additions I think we should be very optimistic.

Being the eternal realist (ok, optimist) , here goes my list:
Wins - 9 - OVER
Points - 465 (33ppg) - OVER
Points Allowed - 378 (27ppg) - UNDER
1st quarter points - 67 - OVER
Home Att. Avg. - 34,734 - UNDER
Rushing yards - 2,408 - OVER
Rushing TDs - 23 - OVER
Passing yards - 3,830 - OVER
Passing TDs - 34 - OVER
3rd down % - 42% - OVER
3rd down def % - 40% - UNDER
4th down attempts - 29 - UNDER
Sacks - 35 - OVER
Def INTs - 15 - OVER
In short, I see improvement on every level except home attendance. And if that happens, it will be a special year.

I've said it 100 times here and I'll keep saying it. Win the conference. Everything else right now is just a distraction.
I do agree with the above statement about being over 9 wins. This team is loaded with talent. If they don't top 9 wins, there are no more excuses. That seat will be too hot for the devil to sit in.

Exactly my thought. Do you think that perhaps Gillin chose to only extend Kerns instead of Clark as well even though there was talk he wanted to do both because of what you said? If we win 8 or less the seat gets super hot but if we go 11-3 or 12-2 Clark would get a big new deal?

I do think that. We are heading into season 5 of Clark, and he has yet to win the conference. I'm sure Gillin is under pressure as well to make sure Clark produces before an extension happens. He may be 3-1 in bowl games but against who? UAB and North Texas were nothing great. The only great bowl win we have under Clark is the Cure over Miami, but even then, they had no great wins that year. Some of his success so far looks great on paper, but when you really sit back and take that hard look at it...well...yeaaah. This year is going to be the real deal. He shows us he is the long-term coach of the future, or he will probably be shown the door. He is an awesome human being, but this is a cutthroat business these days. Winning the conference saves his job even if he does it with 9 wins. Not winning the conference for a 5th year in a row with all this talent is going to send us into a bad spot. So.....WIN THE CONFERENCE!!!

That is what I was thinking. I also thought that if I am Shawn I would rather wait because the salary and years could be way higher coming off a 12+ wins, top 15 ranking, and playoff berth than what we did in 2023.

Trustees would not support an extension last year as I was told anyway.A conference championship this season changes that.

I heard at least a couple did not support it but I think it is a good move for all because Shawn could get way more money if this season is special and we aren't stuck for 3-4 years if we have a bad year. I fully expect us to win 10+ games this year if we stay healthy though.
