First home game since 2009!
Well folks. I'm turning 50 this year and needed to do something big, so I'm coming to Boone for the JMU game!
It will be my first home game since 2009. My fellow App-spouse and I bringing our 14 year old to see his first ever App St. home game (4th ever App football game). Since my last home game, I've seen them in Statesboro, Gainesville, Moscow (2x), and Laramie, as well as a B-ball game in Corvallis last year but Boone hasn't worked out for me previously. That changes this year. We'll take the redeye from Portland, Oregon to Charlotte and drive up that Friday and then go spend T-giving with the family in Augusta.
I know you folks here will understand my excitement and enthusiasm. I can't wait to have other people to yell and scream with. We're in the bleachers, which may not be ideal, but we're in the stadium! Are they still real strict about walking around with an open container?

It has the potential to be a special game. Safe travelsbrocktune90 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 7:03 pmWell folks. I'm turning 50 this year and needed to do something big, so I'm coming to Boone for the JMU game!

And yes open containers on public grounds like the sidewalk are a big gamble.

You are in for a HUGE difference in atmosphere in the stadium from 15 yrs ago. With an even more raucous crowd in attendance around 40k you will be pleased with the new environment. Have fun and glad your scheduling worked out.

FYI since it has been 15 years. Traffic and parking are way worse I'd say. Either have a reserved spot or show up real early to find a public pay parking like church or something.

Re: First home game since 2009!
I haven't been able to make it to games nearly as often since moving out of NC as I would have liked, but I do make it to Boone for other reasons often enough. The thing that would amaze me the most if I was coming for the first time in 15 years would simply be all the changes in town - parking lots that used to be dorms and dorms that used to be parking lots, the new athletic facilities, new or heavily remodeled academic buildings, parks and statues, large apartment complexes, great new restaurants and bars.
If someone hasn't been there in a while, it is well worth spending time just walking around town looking at all the changes.
