We are 1-1, which is likely what most of all figured would be the situation after two games.
100% true. The way we got beat down last night is what surprised most. I don't think anyone picked us to get blown out like we did. The way we respond is going to tell us something. Clemson is by far the best team we play the rest of this year. Nobody left on the schedule should hold us under 30 points.

I really want to know, what would it take for you to admit we're not as good as we were? The 6-6 season didn't do it. Our championship drought hasn't done it. Seriously, what's your line in the sand?

Quick question. When was the last time our defense was legitimately good? 2019?
Fair question and to be honest that defense was special, especially for a G5 team. That defense had Meech, Charles, Davis-Gaither. Thomas, Jolly, Jackson, Hampton, and Ross. All of them proved to be NFL caliber talent. That is an insane quantity of players for one defense at our level. That is hard to replicate.
It is but there is NFL talent developed that P4 schools miss every year. If we could find those guys back then we still can find it now. I'm not saying we can be that stacked every year but there is NFL talent that go to low level G5s, FCS, and D2 every year that I bet if we offer them they would have possibly come to App.

Legit recruiting question/debate. There are 4 ways for a team like us to consider. 1. Look to sign 20-25 HS players every year or whatever it takes to fill out the roster with just a couple of transfers per year. 2. Go heavy into the portal by signing 15+ each year and never take double digit HS players. 3. Have a balance with roughly half and half. 4. Completely ignore one of them and go all in on either portal or HS recruiting.

Of those 4 which is more likely for us to find diamonds in the rough that could be developed? That 2019 defense mentioned was all from HS and not one player from the portal. Just because there is a portal do we have to go all in on it? Would it benefit us to perhaps add a couple on each side of the ball but focus on trying to sign as many HS players as possible? Which of those 4 ways would you think is best for us?
It is going to be all about money. Either money to buy players out of the portal, or money to keep the players we develop. Sucks and we lose that battle. College ball is no longer an amature sport.

I walked into the game with one of the player’s parents and we both had the same conversation. How would this team respond next week based on last night’s results. Would a win create a lull, would a route be demoralizing. Neither of us expected a route but it happens. I watched Colorado/Nebraska this morning and Colorado couldn’t do anything right all night. Games happen where the wheels just fall off and you have to handle it for what it was. We have 3 games in a 14 day stretch and that is going to be telling.

6-6 was two seasons ago. We bounced back and went 9-5 with a win over a fellow G5 conference champ last year, or did you conveniently forget that? This is the season where we will really find out if Clarck can build off his OWN momentum, not Drinks, or if the 9-5 bounceback was a fluke. We can still win the conference.

Colorado is a complete joke. Their QB is getting first round buzz and he throws his teammates under the bus publicly. I think he is a massive bust waiting to happen.

True. But my point is that sometimes, games get away from you and there just isn’t a way to fight through it. That game last night was over at the 7:30 mark of the 1st quarter. It was clear that they could do what they wanted. We could have quit but the kids and the coaches didn’t.

No program is void of issues. Even the successful ones on the field. Winning masks a lot of issues.

I was just hoping it was a bad weekend for black and gold teams. Nope.

With how momentum works, I can’t help but wonder if they didn’t hit on that third down play at the start of the game. Would that have taken them from world beaters to under some sense of control?

It would be nice if we started to see some of our newer recruiting and portal efforts show up. I know it’s early in the season but We’ve been hearing the same names the past couple of years now. Where are our recruits? Where are the portal guys making plays? Or is it just more of Kaedin, Castle and Kanye? Harrington and Nate?
Who is going to step up? It’s worrisome that no one has beaten out some of the guys currently getting run on defense. Beginning to question our recruiting and development a little but need to see more with time.

I wondered the same. We did well defensively on the first two downs.

That can happen. I fully expect App to cover the spread and win big this week. If we lose then I would say the alarm bells should go off. I want to see how we look the next 3 games. That will tell us if we are just bad or ran into a buzz saw, which I don't think we are bad. I think Clemson is a top 10-15 team.
