24 transfers from G-Webb for ETSU. Those guys are going to be surprised by our improved defense in 5 days.

Not too many surprises. Maybe the Gentry/Langlo battle but that means we've got competition!
Kinda surprised Arnholt over Farrar but suspect they'll both play.
Nate has to have another great year, not sure we have a known pass rusher outside of him (well, we had one but the suspension).
Oh and the punter battle will be key this year. Lake getting pressed by Maynard.

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
Ourlads almost nailed the starters back on 8/12. Missed Hollifield at center and Donald at DT.
Donald over Clark at DT is somewhat surprising, but I'm sure both will see a ton of snaps as we rotate DL.

7 deep at WR and legit 4 deep at RB still. And that's a Mountaineer 1st down! Chain gang will be busy.

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
Arnholt earned the designation but I don’t read much into the depth chart in terms who is out there play 1. Farrar could go out first depending on the personnel. I’m not sure what you are basing your comment on but we have a plethora of pass rushers. Fletcher, Collins, KAV, Kelly, Hopper and Wyatt can all get after the QB.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 11:53 amNot too many surprises. Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
Basing it off the fact that 5 of those guys you mentioned totaled only 10.5 sacks last year. (Omitting the 6th for obvious reasons). That's not to say those guys don't get after the QB in other ways, such as QB hurry, QB Pressure, picking 2 OL to free up a rushing LB or DE stunt...etc. Someone out of those 5 will need to step up with some sacks alongside Nate- KAV might be my sleeper to do it!AppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 12:04 pmArnholt earned the designation but I don’t read much into the depth chart in terms who is out there play 1. Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
Not to nit pick but Wyatt didn’t play much, Collins was hurt and out the last half of the seasons. Kelly and Hopper were inside and DDP started and he is no longer here. I get your point when looking at the numbers but those are created from the back end forward. I look at sacks are great but pressures create turnovers and those are created in the secondary. We are two deep with starters at both corners. One thing that I learned from talking with Josh Thomas this offseason is to watch the QB. If he can’t have guys get off coverage in a couple of seconds, they typically start patting the ball, That is a tell on how well the secondary is playing and that translates to pressures and sacks.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 12:24 pmBasing it off the fact that 5 of those guys you mentioned totaled only 10.5 sacks last year. He is probably third or next man up. I would expect him to play because I imagine the Brendan is likely on a pitch count.

do we know how long this suspension is for, or is it indefinite.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 11:53 amNot too many surprises. Maybe the Gentry/Langlo battle but that means we've got competition!

Might know more on game day, might not haha. Maybe ACCNetwork will mention something about it week 2.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 1:12 pmdo we know how long this suspension is for, or is it indefinite.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 11:53 amNot too many surprises. I like the idea but kind of surprised Kanye will be returning kick offs.

No line out of Vegas, even though there are others for FCS versus G5 and P4? I'm guessing they are expecting APP to wallop ETSU and all of their All - Americans?

Re: ETSU Game Thread and discussion
One interesting thing to me is out of all the assistants, only Ponce will be upstairs. I'm sure analysts and such will be up there as well, but all five defensive assistants will be on the sidelines.
Maybe it has something to do with tablets now allowed on the sideline, so coaches can show film to the guys.
I bet with the sun glare this time of year, ETSU has trouble with players seeing plays on their tablets.
