Re: Moving On to ECU
It was great being in the App section at Dowdy-Ficklen today. The Mountaineer faithful showed up in force and were super loud! The team and coaching staff came over to our corner after the game; it was clear the fan support meant the world to them.
Given the injuries and the absolutely awful officiating, today was a big test for our defense. Our kids answered the call.

Re: Moving On to ECU
We NEEDED that win in the worst way. Proud as heck of the grit and effort. Especially after that horrific start, being down so many starters, and the officiating.

I know it’s an understatement but psychologically a loss today would have been brutal especially with the turnaround. Didn’t want to be looking at 1-2. Awesome win

I wish we played EasyU every year. It was great tailgating in Gville..and when their fans came to Boone.

Re: Moving On to ECU
Was at the game and I’m not going to go through this thread but I want to leave you all with a thought. If you are a Shawn isn’t the guy believer, this likely doesn’t sway you. But we went into the game down three starters and backup on defense out before the game. We are shell shocked to start, much like last week. Johnson and Favors are ejected. But through all of that, the team didn’t quit playing and the coaches didn’t quit coaching. It wasn’t pretty, but the team scratched and clawed their way back little by little. Guys stepped up that weren’t expected to do much. That my friends is called leadership.

Re: Moving On to ECU
Defense definitely battle through the loss of personnel.
Offense needs to get better. Expected more from all the returning production. Run game needs to step up and this is probably mostly on the OL.

Re: Moving On to ECU
The amount of people on different extremes about this team is wild. If Clark is your guy cool, if he's not, that's cool too. Both sides can present arguments either way and neither would be wrong. Meanwhile, I'll stick to the position that our goal would be to be ranked and jockying for a playoff spot every year. That was the foundation for winning that has been built here over the last 30 years. I dont care if it's the coach, players, AD or Yosef Clubs fault that we aren't getting there. That should be the goal.

Re: Moving On to ECU
Run game struggles are troubling and honestly puts more pressure than necessary on Joey and the defense.
If we don’t have to call that timeout and Johnson stays in the game we likely double our sacks about their offense.
The game begins with 15 minutes on the clock, these slow starts continue to be a point of frustration.
Ugly wins are still wins, gritty performance from the defense!

Re: Moving On to ECU
That was the best away game I’ve been to, and I haven’t been to many at all. But the way the game went, how Joey just methodically kept at it, unflappable, offense relying wholly on him to make plays.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 7:50 pmIt was great being in the App section at Dowdy-Ficklen today. For the complainers, don’t. That was a hard fought win and despite how it played out, that was gutsy and App will benefit from winning that game later down the road.
ECU also has one of the best defenses App will see all year and they still gained more than 500 yards. Be encouraged.

Re: Moving On to ECU
Not sure if you were there but ECU was stuffing the box and sending pressure nearly every play. App didn’t struggle to run because they couldn’t block, they struggled to run because, sometimes, the other team just had more numbers. It wasn’t a matter of push, or technique. It was just they had more hats, and when ECU finally took guys out of the box, some longer runs began to happen.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:29 pmRun game struggles are troubling and honestly puts more pressure than necessary on Joey and the defense.

Re: Moving On to ECU
Still felt like we were holding on to a few offensive plays tonight… you can see at the end with the pulls to quick throws to the TE.. curious to see what we can do to help the run game. Seems very stagnant and stale at the moment. But also not sure the revolving door at RB works. Just wanna see some App State run it down your throat football again.

Re: Moving On to ECU
The RB rotation under Haines and Clark remains baffling.
Castle is not an RB1. He doesn't move his feet when hit on these stretch run plays. He's the back you bring in after getting those dirty runs and bashes holes running downhill, like he did in the fourth quarter. Especially when ball security is paramount.
If not Kanye, then Ahmani Marshall should start. Experience in big games and gets good dirty yards.
It seemed Kanye was in the doghouse either for those two kickoff mistakes versus Clemson or for something else. Didn't see the field until late second quarter and then only saw limited action, plus Haywood was taking kickoff. I felt this could have been a good game for him given his skill set. Clark and Haines love making RBs dissappear after a mistake. They did it to Peoples, Noel and now Kanye.
At one point we had Castle in to run for nothing, subbed in Kanye and had him pass pro, then brought back Castle for a play designed for him. That made no sense. Castle is the better pass pro RB.

Re: Moving On to ECU
I’m a hater and have concerns.
ECU scored 1 offensive TD and it came 40 seconds in.
If we didn’t turn it over we would have ran them off their own field.
Tighten up and I’m happy ish. We HAVE to figure out how to run the ball though
