Isn’t that the definition of insanity or something?

Not in this case. It happened last year.

I wonder, what level of success Shawn Clark would need to achieve for everyone that post on here to be satisfied with Shawn Clark as the head football coach?

The same as those who preceded him.
What level of failure would it take for some to admit that he isn’t the guy?

I’m not certain everyone would agree on anything. Sans perfection. That would be a winner.

He can be not the guy, and also it be the correct choice to ride out the season with him. I have yet to see all this donor money so many people want to spend to buy him out early.

Really simple, the same stated goal of the man himself.
An SBC title in what we were told would be the year. It was stated during the offseason often.
It is possible.
Now you answer a question, under what outcome this season would you support a change?

Conference title and a bowl win. You cant win every year, but at minimum you need to meet team standards to keep your job. Since 1985 App State averages 1 conference title every 2.3 years...anything less is below average. With the talent he has had, to have 0 is horrible.

I’ve been an App fan since 1985. So, just go back to Sparky Woods. Every coach since then has conference championships, playoff appearances, National championships and bowl wins. Since then, there have been three graduating classes that left without ever winning a conference championship. That will likely be four after this year. Two of those were under Jerry Moore on 2003 and 2004. That was two in over 20 years on the sidelines and those were mitigated by three national championships. Clark will have two in five years, and no conference championships.

I do not know if I would ever support a change. I would like for Shawn Clark to go out on his own terms. He has enough support that to fire him would do more harm than good regardless of what his record is as a head coach. An example of that is the firing of Ruffin McNeal, it is still costing ECU or Western Carolina's Bob Waters. Actually, Appalachian could have fallen off of a cliff if the firing of Jerry Moore had been handled any differently.

So you don’t have an objective take here, thanks for your honesty.

His objective take here is simply: he is okay with losing.

You would be completely fine with perpetual 6-6 or 8-5 seasons simply because he's a good guy? Wish I were able to have that sort of job security just because I'm a good guy too. Would love to have Mark Rick's as my boss who wouldn't hold me accountable for not performing my job well.

In year five, he needs to AT LEAST play in the conference championship (doesn’t have to win) and win a bowl game. Anything less than that should lead to a head coaching change.

I would take it a step further and say anything less than a conference championship warrants firing. This is year five with no championships won.

Can we meet in the middle and say a close loss in the conference championship plus a big win over GA Southern keeps his job?
