Emotions vs. Analytics

We have an emotional coach. That passion is a very good quality as long as it is combined with the staff and players to execute.
This bye week there will be a discussion to be made with our backs against the wall. Continue to start Joey or give Billy a chance. I'm not sure which one gives us the best shot at winning 4 of the next 5.
I believe Joey will remain the starter, it would be very unClark like to pull him, but he's had a love/hate relationship with JA's decision making. We could call a more conservative game and let Roberts and the defense have a similar performance to last week we can win the two easiest game that remain on our schedule at home.
They remember November, but need to win our first game in October.

He said today that Joey is our QB. Sunbelt media call.

I would not expect him to bench Joey unless he knows he is getting fired at the end of the season. We have people paying Joey and he believes Joey gives us our best chance to win as well.

I hope we never start a guy because they are receiving “NIL” money.

And yet another NIL wrinkle. This would be a very bad decision. Why would a kid who's not receiving "top" NIL money ever come to a program, if he had no chance to compete because of a pre-season arrangement?
I'm not big on a two-qb system, but I do see merit in giving a backup a series each half as a change of pace (just like every team does with RB1 and RB2)

If he believes that Joey gives him the best chance to win. Period.
Unless you know he is playing Joey due to some nil agreement, that is a negligent statement.

Personally, Joey is the best example of what's wrong with this team. He was Joey Dimes last year. He had one of the best statistical years of any FBS QB. Now this year.

Saban said it best. “Watch what happens when you pay the wrong guy”. Might not be the case here, but maybe it is.

The little bit of information I was able to find on NIL money in the G5 would suggest that Joey isn’t getting that much money. Again there isn’t much info out there but what I did find would suggest that NIL money isn’t really a big deal in the G5 except when it moves players up to the P4. I would really like to see some hard data on NIL money. Truth is, without collectives, which have completely perverted NIL, there wouldn’t be a player on our team that could go out and make a substantial NIL deal. That’s not bashing our guys and it’s not just a reflection on this year. Can anyone give me a G5 player that has enough name recognition to garner a real substantial NIL deal. Heck, there are only a few in the P4. Guess it doesn’t really matter because collectives exist and it’s simply pay to play. If you could fix the collectives issue NIL issues would go away completely.

I heard he is getting 100k but no clue if that is right.

I wondered how long it would take for a few of you to turn on our QB - never ceases to amaze

Turned? Come on dude. Your high horse schtick is old. No one has "turned" on him. We haven't text him threats or tossed him to Gerogia Southern. We simply said that something is wrong and isn't working. It's a team sport and in team sports you shake things up in hopes to get it fixed. Grow up.

I am certainly not turning on him. When someone said they should look to Billy I simply said Shawn feels Joey gives us the best chance to win now and with him making money I am not sure that would go over well with those paying into NIL.
I think we need to roll with Joey. He is definitely not playing his best now but I have not seen anything from Billy yet to make me think he needs to be given the job. Joey is still a solid player.

Instead of going to the easy boogeyman of NIL, what about discussing what's actually wrong with Joey? Is it lack of confidence in OL play? Clark getting in his head about being a system QB when he's not? Trying to force it too much? Getting rattled by Clemson? Just dealing with the increased pressure and expectations this year? Not having Noel as a safety valve? Offensive play calling not benefitting him?

I def think it's a little of all of that. I really think that if he would pull it and run he would see that he doesn't have to force the throws. Joey really reminds me of Brett Favre. Can sling it but will throw a ton of INTs.

Last year during our turn around, it was said part of the offensive change was going more quick as Joey felt more comfortable with that.
With the radio in the helmets now and us huddling more often, I wonder if that's playing a role too.

My soccer team runs best on quick strikes when we get the ball. Other teams like to methodically work the pass and move.... My forwards like it because it makes them run off instinct as opposed to overthinking what to do once they get the ball. It's more fluid for them.

It’s hard to play and succeed at QB when other phases of the team are lacking.
He can’t rely on the defense to win games.
He can’t rely on the OL/Run game to win games. The coaching hasn’t been as good as years past. He’s essentially trying to do it himself and that’s tough. Last week was the first week we looked decent running and playing defense.
