If true…I confess I didn’t believe they’d do it. But I suspect Gillin was painted into a corner where someone was gonna the axe and he didn’t want to be unemployed. But I don’t believe DG is out of the woods either.

If you listen to most of Shawn's pressers where he talked about the standard being the standard, competing for championships and how the head coach always takes responsibility, he made the case for his dismissal pretty clear.

OK the emotional part is done- it was the right call no matter how hard it was. Now the real work begins.

Yeah, it's a bummer. But Clark will be ok. He's going to get a nice little buyout, and he will land on his feet somewhere. There are a lot of teams that would love him as O-line coach or even as a coordinator since he has head coach experience. Heck, he might even get another head coaching shot if he's willing to drop down to FCS or D2.
Now I have to run to the store to get more Tums until we find out who the next coach will be.

Ideally with the length in time that this decision took place, there was a good bit of thought behind who would be the successor and what can be done for the future since the roster will likely be significantly overhauled by the incoming staff, or the players themselves.

Clark seems like a good guy but too many mistakes. Countless ones saturday night. Just common sense stuff. Not sure if he knew this was coming and was trying everything but it needed to be done and now the next hire is beyond crucial in getting us back to where we used to be.

I gotta be honest I didn’t think he was getting the job done. But I can’t celebrate him getting fired.
I appreciate the job he did. It’s an understatement to say he had to endure some external challenges and he always did it with class.
It’s the right choice but consider me worried more than anything. We get this hire right and it can payoff. We get it wrong and we can become the next Southern Miss. eyes are officially on DG.

hate to hear it, but had to happen.
New coach candidates will now know that we won't tolerate losing seasons. The ones that believe in themselves will want to come.
