Re: Roster/Staff Updates
I get that. None of us know how good these hires are or what exactly they will do for Loggains. I do expect to see improvement but just don't know how these hires will help Loggains but I am being open minded to give it a chance and hope that is does!bcoach wrote: ↑Mon Feb 09, 2026 3:39 pmI think maybe the main point here was we still have not hired an OC. We hired a title holder to cover the real intent. I could be wrong but I think that was his point.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 09, 2026 3:28 pmBill won 6 Super Bowls and he couldn’t even make a bowl game at UNC in 1 year. Saban is the goat of CFB and he couldn’t cut it in pros in a short amount of time. I think people with NFL backgrounds need some time to adjust. I really believe they need 2-3 years before your can really judge them. Honestly, Loggains just needs to make a bowl game and get a third season. That is when I think we will know but should get an idea this year. We say players need time to adjust but we don’t think coaches do? Coaching in D2 is not the same as the SEC and coaching in the NFL is not the same as college. We need to give these people time. Could Cignetti win big in NFL? I bet he would need time as well.

I was about to post the same thing. He has salesmanship and is an extrovert when it comes to the players and coaches and that matters the most. I don't care if he is an introvert with normal fans. All he needs to do is win and the PR and politics won't matter.

Mack Brown could sell ice to an eskimo.mike87 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 09, 2026 5:14 pmI don't know him, have spoken to him only just a hello and I certainly don't expect him to remember me. I don't know Jack sht about coaching football, but I do like to win.
My concern with Dlo is that the head football coach should be the ambassador for the program. There's a lot of PR that comes with the job that he's just not doing. Watch him on mountaineer talk, he's looking at the TV in the top left corner while he's talking. Can you look at the camera and take control of the interview? On the sideline he doesn't appear interested in the game. I know he is and I know he's coaching but play the part. Same with the post-game interviews. Make the press love you.
Maybe he's got the X's and O's and he appears to have recruited well. If he doesn't get the PR role though, he won't make it. He needs a little Mac Brown, IMO
Satterfield in 2013 was not a good public speaker and multiple people told me that. By 2016 onward he was much improved. I hope Dowell can improve but he seems to be stubborn about front-facing appearances, just like vocalized in the December BOT meeting.
The only way I think Dowell is in trouble in 2026 is if the team has a losing record.

Agree here. I think he just needs to get to a bowl game and he will be fine.T-Dog wrote: ↑Mon Feb 09, 2026 6:49 pmMack Brown could sell ice to an eskimo.mike87 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 09, 2026 5:14 pmI don't know him, have spoken to him only just a hello and I certainly don't expect him to remember me. Playing devils advocate re: buyout…I wouldn’t be shocked if several influential donors have said “if he sinks in 2026, we won’t risk holding on too long, as we may have done in the past”. That’s not saying that the money has been raised and sitting in an account, but that it could be found if absolutely necessary.
I know nothing, but I wouldn’t be shocked if that was the case.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
History is full of coaches who could recruit talent but couldn’t convert that success into a winning record. I’m not saying DLO falls into this camp; frankly, we don’t have enough data to make an informed decision.
What we do know is DLO brought in a very strong class. We know we want him to be successful. But let’s not kid ourselves: a lot of things have to go right between now and August for App to return to its winning ways.
If you want to read into this and accuse me of being a doomsayer, that’s up to you. But I know football; I’ve played it and coached it, so consider me a pragmatist.

I’m not accusing anyone of anything, but I’ve also been around enough football to not have my hair tousled.

What a great plan… hire a guy and make plans to fire him practically at the same time.

That just seems like common sense. If a guy sucks at his job, higher ups will fire him.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 09, 2026 8:36 pmPlaying devils advocate re: buyout…I wouldn’t be shocked if several influential donors have said “if he sinks in 2026, we won’t risk holding on too long, as we may have done in the past”. That does not mean money was preemptively raised/secured.

This is APPsolutely 100% false. 90% of the BOT went to visit Clark in the hospital. They don't do that if things got nasty between him and the BOT. There was never any bad blood with Clark and the BOT. NEVER.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 07, 2026 9:31 pmIn reality, the decision was made after the Coastal Carolina debacle. This has been well documented. His emotions got the best of him and the firing got extremely nasty between him and the BOT. That is the version you likely weren’t told.
Now the same people who spread the lies of Clark being blindsided are spreading information that DLo is a bad fit, toxic coach and doesn’t want to be here. Be careful what you believe.
