Mid-season halfway point grade?

Post by Yosefus » Sat Oct 11, 2025 7:15 pm

Overall, I see a ton of improvement. Team seems to be gelling. Would like to have So. Miss game back. Don't think we will make championship but it is possible.
Coaching B+
Playing B+
Win/Loss C. Only because of So Miss.

What the rest ye think?

I think many here are underestimating So Miss. Huff has 21-22 transfers and 10-11 coaches that he brought with him from marsha.

To the question, B across the board for DL staff and team. But, I am liking what I am seeing the past couple of weeks.

We have come a LONG way in last two weeks. If we continue this rate of improvement for remainder of season we may win out.
Entire team is playing with much more confidence now. Still much work to do but I love the progress.

Hopefully, winning gives them confidence. I like this coach. The team is doing the little things. Faking throws after handoffs. Running crisp routes even when it is a run play. Those are coachable and correectable by coaches. These little things are the discipline teams need to be successful. I think we have a good chance to win the sunbelt. I haven't thought yhat for years. We have to get better but we have a chance. ODU loss today helped a lot.

We are 4-2 right now so I give us a B grade for mid season. I give DL and the coaching staff a ton of credit for cleaning up the big obvious issues of our team. We played a really clean game today and I would not have thought that possible a few weeks ago. I really think we can beat anyone in the Belt if we play our game. I am excited for the rest of the season.

From a football only perspective, we are 4-2 when last year we were 2-4, with momentum going strong. I would give us a B+ so far based on the transition, roster overhaul and how the team is improving.

Grading the team in general: C
We should’ve beat Southern Miss, should’ve trounced Lindenwood, should’ve looked better against Boise and Oregon State. Too many turnovers and penalties through the first 5 games.

Grading the team in context of a new coaching staff/huge roster shakeup/rebuilding year: -A
The team is getting better every week. Guys are stepping up when they’re needed. This team inspires hope for the rest of the season and next year. I haven’t been this hopeful this late in the season in quite some time.

It’s amazing how you finish games when you don’t simply give the ball away and when you don’t commit stupid penalties. It’s hard to win games but it’s easy to give them away. Lots of good teams have at least one bad early loss they should have won. I love the receiver depth. There isn’t a long list of successful 6’7” quarterbacks but a good one who can see over everyone else is a huge factor. I think overall B+ is about right. Not sure if we actually get to an A but solid A minus is doable.

Expectations are shifting each week. If we go back to the start of the season consensus was somewhere around 5-8 wins. 3-3 or 4-2 probably for the mid-point given the competition.

Pleased to be 4-2 and executing better the last two games.

I think the more difficult part of our SBC schedule is yet to occur.
Got to win next week as it gets difficult after next week.
Marsha actually looked liked Marshall yesterday. I thought that may be an easier win this year.
Given new coach, first head coaching job, pantry left bare, having to gel new players and have players wanting to play for each other, new schemes
B+.. may have had another + by the B if pass D and punting were better... Pass D better yesterday as QBs could not, well, pass.
My grade is based upon my preseason expectations... Not that App. St. is back to dominance. We have a ways to go .. but improving every week.

I don’t know about our grade but I’m looking forward to leaving Harrisonburg with a 3 game win streak against the Dukes.

If we can only expand our RB room some more?

If we can keep them healthy, I’m content with the top 2 guys. Lewis has shown that he can handle his share of the load.

I know it was mop up duty but Alexander showed some burst. Keith just doesn’t look healthy, or maybe he’s just a goal line back. Big body though.
Glad to know we do have 4 that can go though. I thought it was just 2.

Prior to the last 2 games I would have said C+ overall but I will say solid B now. I can see why some think we could win out after the last two weeks but the SBC is going to be difficult and I am still sticking with 7-5 or 8-4 prediction for now. If we win the next 2 games with little or no turnovers then I will change my grade to B+ or A- and adjust my projection to 8-4 or 9-3. Fingers are crossed!

Finding a way to win the Oregon State game felt like a turning point in the season at the time to me, yesterday’s performance has me feeling like that may have indeed been the case. This roster was still churning well into August and has continued into the season. Feels like both sides of the ball are now gelling. I’ll go with a B+ to this point.

If we beat Coastal, Georgia Southern and JMU but lose the other games, I’d be very happy.
