First time going to Boone

Unread post by Marshall2004 » Mon Nov 17, 2025 10:14 am

I am a longtime Marshall fan making the trip to Boone for the first time. Some of my earliest memories were when it seemed in the early and mid-1990s that we could not lose at home and yet we lost in 1993 and 1995 to App in Huntington. The 1995 loss was on homecoming in a really low scoring game if my memory is correct. App scored the winning touchdown right in front of me. I know that this year you all are going through an up and down rebuilding year the same as we are. I hope to have good weather and a good game against a rival on Saturday.

Any places I should definitely hit up in Boone? I have a brunch reservation in Sunday at Hellbender in Blowing Rock. I will have my kids with me. Any good pizza in town? Good place to eat some trout? Looking forward to the trip. Thanks.

Trout in blowing rock.. Speckled Trout

Pizza…Lost Provence. I’d highly recommend Kidd-Brewer Stadium where you can enjoy The Herd making a meal outta App. Stay away from student section. They are pretty “vocal” in their dislike of everyone. 😱

Peppers Restaurant has been around for almost 50 years. Wide variety of soups sandwiches and entrees. It has been my favorite for all those years.

Dan’l Boone Inn has been around even longer. Southern fare served family style.

Peddler Steak House for old school steak and salad.

Stick Boy Bread Co for breakfast treats.

Lock down parking if you have not done so yet. Here are a few options (I can’t vouch for accuracy, but this is from the chamber website)

Enjoy the trip to Boone (but hopefully not the game lol). Bring clothing that you would wear to a Marshall game in late November. Boone weather can be very unpredictable.

Boone Bagelry for breakfast is my fav.

Peppers is my wife's favorite for dinner since their french onion soup is so good.

Yes parking is the biggest pain.

If you want parking, try Facebook search for Tiffany Leonard. She sells spots right by the Holmes basketball arena.

If you like Sushi, CoBo is tough to beat.

Regardless, you’ll have a plethora of options for your victory dinner.

One of the better newer restaurants is Over Yonder. The trout is great but the chicken fried chicken is my favorite. Also save room for dessert.

For a gracious truly country Southern style breakfast where they keep bringing more if you ask.....it's tough to be Dan's Boone Inn. Earlier the better....this time of year it gets packed with a line but truly worth it. With a football game compounded with folks making a traditional Christmas tree run it gets packed for breakfast.
KICK ASS!!!

Good call on Hellbender. You will enjoy it. Mellow Mushroom is a chain, but the one in Boone seems to be better than the rest. Everything in God's Country tastes better except the bitterness of defeat. People say Peppers is great, but you can get a sandwich anywhere. Since you are going to be in and around Blowing Rock, Story Street Grille is very good. Enjoy your visit.

Daniel Boone will fix you a tailgate box and have it waiting on you if you call it in. Or they used to and it was a bargain. Peppers isn’t what it used to be but what is ? Do make parking arrangements asap. Safe travels.

We got a Great respectful rivalry back with App & Marshall. Not a hate rivalry for me. Ya'll got great history & some friendly fans. Been cussed and flipped off pretty good by the students though, but you will get the same in Boone I am sure. I hope you enjoy your trip to Boone!
My Boone food recommendations = Pizza: Lost Province. Burgers: Cardinal. Italian: Casa Rustica. Brewery with great food: Booneshine. Sandwiches: Peppers. That's pretty much our rotation that we enjoy.
Give Em Hell!!
