Re: Projected Depth Chart
Defensive 2 deep is young! hopefully they all figure it out this year and then the next few years we'll be dominant!
also notice Blalock wasn't on the 2 deep anywhere

I'm relieved. He's a liability in coverage, frankly. He plays with heart though and hopefully he can continue be a special teams stud.mtnjax wrote:also notice Blalock wasn't on the 2 deep anywhere

Re: Projected Depth Chart
Hard to tell, we haven't played a game yet. A lot of young talent there though.

Re: Projected Depth Chart
Blalock has a hamstring injury and cannot practice. He will definitely see time as either a back-up or starter as soon as he heals. Hopes to be on the field by Tuesday or Weds of next week. Had a great Fall Camp and looks to be better suited for the OLB position. These FR LBs are special!!!!

I see Rodger Walker earned the 1 spot for Right Corner.... Is he doing better health-wise?

Re: Projected Depth Chart
The problem with Blalock was a combo of several different issues. First, he had those two blocks in his first game so everyone thought he was Corey Lynch, including Moore. Then he was forced into the safety position due to injuries despite not being a safety. Remember, Lynch wasn't even a great safety in his senior year when he was moved over. Add on that Jones didn't know how to coach a secondary or make in-game adjustments and you have a recipe for bad things.

Re: Projected Depth Chart
Anything on Doug Middleton? He was awesome this spring and is not even starting on week one.
Glad to see the freshman have stepped up on defense to help this group out.

Re: Projected Depth Chart
surprised by all the freshman on defense that made the 2 deep, one of the questions at the beginning of camp was would SS redshirt most or all of the freshman and save them for next year, guess we now know the answer.

Re: Projected Depth Chart
Excellent post T-Dog. Blalock was playing out of position last year and he got beat by faster WRs. If we played ANY of our LBs at safety, that would be the likely outcome. I was frustrated last year also, but folks are awfully hard on a kid who has worked hard. Hopefully he gets some good quality reps at LB this year and continues to contribute to the team success. It's all about finding the right place / fit.T-Dog wrote:The problem with Blalock was a combo of several different issues. We are very young at LB and a bit smallish on D. I'm glad these young guys are stepping up and playing well. I would just like to see a few of them adding about 10-15 lbs before next year.

As far the Dline is concerned, Woody requested and the players replied by losing some weight.

Re: Projected Depth Chart
Are there lingering issues with the injuries to both Middleton and Blackmon since they were tabbed as starters last season or have the other players stepped up? I imagine we'll suffer quite a few growing pains on D with so many young players learning a new system. Hopefully Woody has the guys dialed in!

Re: Projected Depth Chart
Middleton may be back to full speed on Monday...if so, he will probably start vs. Montana. Walton has had a great Fall Camp and plays hard every down. Coaches love this kid!!!
Blalock may be back Tuesday/Weds at near full-speed. Coaches may still RS Lee Wright IF Blalock makes it back in a timely manner.
