Montana Trip
I know this is early, but does anyone know the hotel that most of the App fans will probably stay at for the Montana Game? I'm also planning a short excursion to Glacier National Park. Does anyone have any experience with the lodges up there? Thanks a lot. Go App!

Re: Montana Trip
That's a good question. I hear that staying in downtown Missoula wold be the best bet since you would be close to many downtown eateries and bars. But, I don't know which hotels are located downtown. Would anyone who went in '09 know of any?appgrunt71 wrote:I know this is early, but does anyone know the hotel that most of the App fans will probably stay at for the Montana Game? Re: Montana Trip
My dad and I went out there in 2009. We stayed at the Doubletree, which is about 1/2 a mile from Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Nice walk and not to far to go into downtown Missoula. Another good hotel is the Holiday Inn.
I went in 2000 and 2009 and it is definitely worth the trip if you can make it swing. Two of the best times I have had in my life. I will be a junior this fall and plan on flying once again to Missoula.

Re: Montana Trip
Couple of us have booked rooms at Holiday Inn Downtown. This was a hotel recommended on the Montana boards. I believe the DoubleTree was already booked up for the week/weekend of the game.

Re: Montana Trip
Awesome, thanks! I am definitely making the trip but did not realize that the hotels were filling up already. Once I consult with my better half/travel planner, I guess I should get my travels plans done sooner than later.ASU1234 wrote:Couple of us have booked rooms at Holiday Inn Downtown. I could not swing it in 2009 but remember that the school had a package that included tickets, hotel and a charter flight out of Greensboro. Any word on whether they will be offering a similar deal this year?

Re: Montana Trip
I've already booked a room at the Holiday Inn downtown. It's a short walk to the stadium.
I've been to Glacier (and will be going again this summer), but we camped the whole time. There are a variety of accommodations in the park. In general, the west side of the park has more tourist stuff, but the best hiking is on the east side.

Re: Montana Trip
The Campus Inn looks nice and it's a few blocks from the stadium. H2Oson, Kiddbrewer and I will be there. Hope PBR will be going too..... There is a Motel 6 on the same block as the Campus Inn... appears to be okay, but nothing fancy. Motel 6 is just a place to lay your head anyway.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Was there in 2009 and looking forward to some warm weather this time. The Grizz fans will treat us like King and Queens.

Thanks for all the advice. We booked the Holiday Inn in downtown Missoula for Friday and Saturday nights. This is going to be a lot of fun, can't wait. Go App!

Re: Montana Trip
Apphiker, I hope you can give me some insight on Glacier. My wife and I plan on renting a car in Missoula for the trip to Glacier. I'm undecided about where we are going to stay, the Lake McDonald Lodge or the Inn at Many Lake. We hope to fill our time with day hikes, perhaps a boat excursion, and a trip on the Going to the Sun Road. A big question for me is the plane trip back home, do we drive back to Missoula or go to the Glacier Park Intl Airport (FCS)? Thanks for your thoughts.

You'll probably want to drive back to Missoula to fly home. Otherwise, you'll pay a premium for returning the rental car to a different location. I would check the flight and rental car costs for both airports and just do a round trip from either one. The drive from Missoula to West Glacier is easy and pleasant anyway.
How much time do you plan to spend in Glacier? There are boat trips on 4 lakes in Glacier - 3 are on the east side. IMO, the best hiking is from the Many Glacier area and along Going to the Sun Road.
This message board is a great resource for trip planning. Lots of helpful and friendly folk:

Re: Montana Trip
Has anyone looked into flights? Since airfare is typically cheaper 6 weeks out, I went online pricing tickets into Missoula/Spokane options on Thursady and returning on Monday. The tickets are still in the mid $500 range. I looked at other options and found flights into Seattle for $300. It's a 7 hour drive from there but I am thinking a stop in Couer D Alene, Idaho for a round of golf would break up the trip nicely.

My whole group just booked this past weekend on Delta's website We are leaving from Charlotte on the the thurs before and coming back the thurs after. Full week out there. We are flying into Butte (1.5 hr drive)for $276/ticket round trip. One stop in Salt Lake City. Second flight is a quickie. It was up to $336/ticket on sunday but still the best i've seen. We are renting a big house on the river about 15 minutes from the stadium. Looking forward to the trip. I was last out there as a player in 2000 and always wanted to go back. They people are really hospitable, I do remember that much.

Re: Montana Trip
My wife and I are thinking of flying into Butte on Thursday, stay in Missoula through Sunday, then head back down to Yellowstone for a few days camping and in hotels and drive back to Butte for the return flight on Wednesday.
Anybody have a recommendation for Glacier Park vs. Yellowstone?
