encouraging, and it makes alot of sense, before Wake killed the series, it was competive, both fan bases really got into the games, one of the few sellout games for Wake. Instead of begging for Charlotte for games, I thought Charlie should have been spending his time call Wake's AD. Unfortunately, got the feeling from the blog, that unless something changes, it will probably be awhile before we play them again.

No Doubt...It was the highest attended game of the year for the Deacs 8 out of the last 11 meetings.

I say we offer them a 2 for 1, on the grounds that Appalachian gets 10,000 tickets for the games in Winston.

Article notes that the series with Army and Vandy end in 2015. A 2-for-1 beginning in 2016 seems realistic but I don't believe ASU is in a position to make any demands for more tickets than usual. WFU has standing-room seats in the end zones, so App could still easily bring 10K.

That is true...Looks like their visiting sections hold around 5000. We could buy up the grass seats as well as the unsold sections.

Their all time record is 37,623. They still have an opening in 2015. (according to http://www.wakeforestsports.com/sports/ ... 04aaa.html)

I bet if we made that game our first official FBS game we could break their record attendance.

I took the article in a positive light. I think it will happen between 2017-2019. And YES, it will pack WS. Go App!

It looks like Wake Forest is playing Indiana in 2015, but will have an opening because the Notre Dame is still listed as a game in 2015. It got moved to 2014 with the new ACC agreement, and Notre Dame's 2015 is full.

love to see a 2 for 1, but I would settle for 2 in Winston Salem just to get the series started again, then down the road, maybe we can get them up in Boone. Honestly, Im happy we are finally having a discussion about a future rival other than UNCC!!!

Charlie needs to get this done ASAP. He wasn't around for those games, but I'm sure Satterfield and Jay Sutton could explain to him just how important this series was for App.

The series with Wake was a truly great experience, We always brought more fans down the mountain than they had in their home stands. I was really bummed when they stopped the series. I can easily see us playing them in 2014. Its a win win for both programs now that we are FBS. I would take a guess that Wake would be willing to play us anytime over UNCC wanting to play us. I could also take a guess that Wake could be the first team to come to Boone from a BCS conference.

We've been told constantly that WFU won't play us by Cline.

I hope this happens. The Wake game was always a ton of fun and one of the most anticipated games of the year. It seemed like every game went down to the wire.

"Charlie Cobb, Appalachian’s athletics director, said there has been no dialogue between his school or Wake Forest."

But we hear every other day about the effort being made to schedule UNCC. Sad and demoralizing.

Ridiculous. A BCS program with an established history on the gridiron, with which we have an existing series vs a fledging FCS program with delusions of grandeur.

I'm emailing Cobb.

Throw in ECU while you're at it - "these teams will never come to Boone!".

While the article doesn't explicitly say the Wake AD is open to arranging home and homes with us, the fact that he is open to playing us is encouraging and could eventually lead to such a scenario, or maybe a 2 for 1 at the worst.

I'd be willing to take a 2-for-1 with Wake because they are in a P5 league. And I'd ten thousand times rather rekindle the Wake series than to play UNCC. I really hope they can make this happen in 2015 since we both have open dates.

Good number of students made the trip down but most most of the fans came from the Triad Area.

An App-Wake game would be a hot ticket, a certain sellout. However, Wake Forest is flush with cash; sellouts are not particularly an objective. App still presents problems for Wake. Now FBS, an App win may not carry the FCS upset label as before but it could impact recruiting.

Living in Wake Forest country, I can tell you one thing for certain: Their fans are getting tired of playing Presbyterian, Gardner-Webb, Elon and so forth. Here's the procedure for any one of those games: Pre-game tailgate, go to game, leave at halftime and tailgate for the remainder of the game while listening or watching another game on a remote satellite feed. I know because I've been there.

Wake fans want the excitement of App-Wake to return. I regularly lobby all my Wake Forest friends to make phone calls, send emails and letters to Ron Wellman saying that want Appalachian back on the schedule. I submit the customer (the fan) is the best tool to get this rivalry reinstated.

Wake plays ULM on our open date. I plan on going to that game.
