Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
Hopkins will have many more suitors before signing day. A lot of recruiting insiders say he is a BCS-level talent.

Hey Glenn, two thoughts. One, just as our facilities and game atmosphere are helpful in recruiting... they can also be a detriment. Secondly, as we enter the" big pond" of FBS football keeping committs is going to be more difficult particularly for the early ones.

I know. I just put the link up because it was the first I had seen of our 2014 commits. I suspect most, if not all, of them will take visits this season. I just hope we can hold on to our share of them.

Wonder what effect, if any, losing to teams like A&T have on recruiting?AppFan11 wrote:Hey Glenn, two thoughts. Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
The 247 site has an article on some of the recruits who were here this past weekend. All seemed impressed by the facilities, the atmosphere, and the coaching staff. I'm not sure losing a game is going to lose a recruit.
Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
Heck, losing the game might be "good" for recruiting... They can see that we need help and where they could really "fit" into the App machine to make it work better!hapapp wrote:The 247 site has an article on some of the recruits who were here this past weekend. One game does not a postseason make.
More App Games > Less App Games
More App Games > Less App Games
Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
Sincerely doubt losing to NC A&T would ever be a good thing to encourage recruits to chose us over someone else.

Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
We're still offering the recruits an opportunity to come in and contribute right away. For a lot of them, the potential of immediate playing time trumps being deep on a depth chart for two or three years at a larger "BCS" school. And as mentioned earlier in this thread, commits will flip throughout their recruiting process for various reasons. Our facilities, program, potential early playing time should all cover any losses we endure over the next couple of years.

Hopefully they decided to show them King Street around the second quarter...hapapp wrote:The 247 site has an article on some of the recruits who were here this past weekend. Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
I can really spin a loss to A&T as a GOOD thing for recruiting, but it doesn't have to be the end of the world. Hopefully, we see a drastic change against Elon and for the rest of the year. If we play the way I believe we can, this loss can be a distant memory by the end of the season. A game like this can certainly be "spun" to at least minimize the damage (Opportunity, character, how the coaches deal with a bad situation).
I'm sure we'll lose some of those early recruits, but I hope we hold onto most. We'll have to see. Honestly, we have no track record at keeping early commits because we've never had this many before.

Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
I warned about this a while back. We are in a situation that App has never really been in. Before the split there were less schools we were competing against. During the JM era we mostly offered late. This year we're moving up, got a bunch of new schools, both FBS and FCS, in our footprint, and we've been offering since February with it just getting heaver week by week. Granted, many of those first offers, just as the 2015 offers and others going out now, were/are long shot (I never say no shot) players. But as we started picking up commits, I've been keeping an even closer look at them and what they are saying. I have a pretty good idea of our softest commits and the ones I feel we could easily lose but I'm not going to post names on the board, just in case.
I said two months ago that it was going to be a LONG time until February rolls around. We've got at least one who is planning an early enrollment, like Covington this year, and a couple more potentally doing the same so that would help but for the rest we've got a wait for those LOI's to come in and a lot of chances for poaching, depending on how their senior seasons go.

Yes it is. He still hasn't made a visit but, according to twitter, it is looking like he is planning to come for either Samford or GSU. Guess we have to wait and see.moehler wrote:is this the same kid, who committed without having even seen the campus?

Hearing the crowd boo their own players might discourage some.

Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
But what's the point for a kid to commit this early in the process??
Also, if I would like for the NCAA to prohibit official visits after the kid committed. A commitment is a commitment. If you wanna explore your opportunities you should be allowed to; just don't commit.

Re: Commit looking elsewhere?
A lot of kids commit early so they can concentrate on their final HS season plus a lot of kids these days are graduating early and will enroll in January. They also commit to a good school just in case a better offer doesn't come in. Let's say you get an offer from App but have talked to some BCS schools that show interest. You decide to wait on a BCS offer that doesn't come and when you go back to your other offers there are no more spots left. As far as the NCAA goes they are fair game right up until they sign the LOI and even then, as we've seen, backdoor stuff can cause a kid to try and get out of an LOI.Dazed and Confused '13 wrote:But what's the point for a kid to commit this early in the process??

Even schools like Bama can lose a commit now and then but for us poaching will always be the case. This year is just bad because we've had so many early commits. Long time until signing day and it will be a rough few months to see who we finally get signed.
