Chancellor Peacock parachuting pregame?

Unread post by AppGrad1 » Wed Sep 25, 2013 4:42 pm

Was this not supposed to happen the first game?
Was this posted on the message board earlier in the year?

I thought I read it on this board about a month ago.
Maybe I heard wrong...

I heard that he couldn't get medical clearance to skydive.

I wasn there, so I can't say for sure, but it seemed from the start that the message boards picked up a comment made in jest by our enthusiastic chancellor and ran with it. I doubt that Dr Peacock ever actually expected to make a jump....especially with his recent medical issues.

OK, guys and gals, let's lay this to rest once-and-for-all. I was present for the late July Alumni Awards Banquet when Ft. Bragg commander Maj. Gen. Edward M. Reeder Jr. made the sky-dive offer to KP. I can say w/o any doubt that KP accepted the offer immediately and enthusiastically. He didn't blink when Reeder told him he'd be strapped to a big, strong Special Forces Officer and they'd be dropped somewhere over Hickory for the "dive-in." Maj. Gen. Reeder guaranteed KP that he'd land on his feet squarely on the 50 yard line. KP was pumped. He commented that a sky-dive had long been on his bucket list.

The issue here is that the Federal Armed Services Budget Sequestration has grounded all such flights. The decision was made well above Maj. Gen. Reeder's pay grade. You can read that as "The Pentagon!" Gen. Reeder's hands are tied.

One more thing. I have this from THE SOURCE. In no way was KP refused medical clearance for the flight. He's ready to go right now if the The Pentagon will relax the grounding of the aircraft. Period! And you can take this to the bank!

Or people could pitch in and make it his going away present, not with military aircraft of course, but there are plenty of civilian tandem options.

True. And it's not even very expensive.

Wow. Thanks for the details. I will certainly defer to the man who was there!
