Is this the future?
Normally I wait until Sunday AM to post when I am P.O'ed about a bad game. I just can't wait this time. When is the last time that we were this bad on both sides of the ball? Wait, back up, not bad players but bad coaching. We(admittedly myself included) were mostly in favor of moving on from JM, but as they say "be careful what you wish for". When is the last time that anyone would have ever imagined that ASU would lose to NC A&T and CSU in the same year AT HOME! I fear that this is the future and that all of the move up to FBS hoopla is what we should get used to. I wasn't for the move up, but also didn't want to stay in the SOCON. I wish that there was a better answer/solution but we are kind "of stuck in the middle." Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Exactly what was trying to say in my posts. I think the situation is much worse than 1-3ebapps1 wrote:Normally I wait until Sunday AM to post when I am P.O'ed about a bad game. The world is not ending, it just seems like it. Soon we will have a new chancellor, new AD, new basketball coach and new football coach. This is not the future.

Have we all considered that since the three teams that beat us are a combined 10-0, maybe they were all just better than we were expecting, and things could turn around?

Re: Is this the future?
The future of App football is VERY bright. I can't believe some of you guys don't see it. Holy Hell Marcus Cox is a Beast! Bryant is going to be great at QB and we had 3 receivers grab over 80 yards each averaging around 20 yards a catch. Washington averaged over 20 yards a kick return and its only a matter of time before he breaks a few. Some things may be a little rough at the moment but the future is going to be something to look forward to. You can complain about the defense if you want but when you ae in the game for over 2/3s of the time you are going to get tired against a good team. A few plays difference and this is a win not a loss so I wouldn't get too down on these guys just yet this year and the future is going to be filled with a plethora of yards and TD's.

Re: Is this the future?
In Jerry Moore's first 6 seasons as a head coach he had ONE winning season with many of those years being at Texas Tech. Even after he came to App he only had 3 seasons where he had fewer than 3 losses. and had 14 seasons of 4 or more losses. Yes I did see it was a loss but its not the end of the world. There are a bunch of bright spots that are coming together nicely. Even Mike Krzyzewski who is going to put the basketball ball wins record to something absurd had losing records his first 5 out of 8 seasons that he was a head coach. Every coaching change comes with bumps in the road as things transition especially in a year with this much stress on everything as they not only changed coaches but they are in the process of changing conferences. SS is going to need time to take his licks and learn the hard way like every coach does in the beginning. Thankfully instant gratification obsessive fans don't make important decisions that require time, patience, and an understanding of how things work. Even if the team finishes with 6-7 losses which I don't think they will its still not the end of the world with all that they will have coming back next year. Just go look at any sport at the amount of good-great coaches out there who had losing seasons their first couple. I bet FSU wished they had fired Bobby Bowden after his first season going 5-6. SS could be great he could be a bust but if you instant gratification addicts don't give him a few years to prove things one way or the other we will never know, same with any coach that is brought in.

Losing to Montana is not the end of the world. The other two are the kind of teams we used to pull our starters to keep from running the score up.AppfaninCAALand wrote:Have we all considered that since the three teams that beat us are a combined 10-0, maybe they were all just better than we were expecting, and things could turn around?

How do you explain good seasons from '10-'12?AppGrad1 wrote:I wonder if AE just carried us for 4 years. We've gone downhill since.

According to many of your recent posts they weren't good seasons...Gonzo wrote:How do you explain good seasons from '10-'12?AppGrad1 wrote:I wonder if AE just carried us for 4 years. We've gone downhill since.
One game does not a postseason make.
More App Games > Less App Games

Re: Is this the future?
Both of our QBs (JLJ, KB) are coming back from knee surgery. Our offensive scheme works best when we have a running back that can throw at QB. If the QBs can't aggressively run the spread option like AE, Cadet or Pressley did in the past then we better change the scheme and find a bigger O-line and a lead blocker for Cox.

How do you explain good?? So Con??
I describe good as in how we do in the playoffs. We've been manhandled in them.
Re: Is this the future?
Maybe this is just what happens when a legend that was still producing winning seasons, conf. championships, and playoff births and who won 3 titles is forced to leave before he is ready. I have nothing against Scott. I honestly thought we would be fine with him. Not working out that way yet. Hoping it gets better.

Re: Is this the future?
I'm with you. We just have a rough patch of a few years. I will say that like someone else said NCAT and CSU are better than people expected. I thought both would be 7 win type teams in their leagues but still not teams we should lose to. We should never lose to the Big South champ, let alone the likely 3rd best team in the league. GW and CCU are playing like top 25 teams (they are both ranked) and thus it would scare me to see how bad we would do against them. Remember that GW beat Furman in a close one. I think we are going to win just 2-3 more games this year, at best. Some after the game were saying WCU is our only win and to be honest I don't think any game is a gimme right now for us. We are that bad on both lines and our coaching is awful right now. We have 2 or 3 assistants who are really good but we picked the wrong leader.MountainMan wrote:The world is not ending, it just seems like it. In the next 3 years or so I think we have a new chancellor, AD, and football coach and this will just be looked at as a short rough patch. Sun Belt was the right move and getting rid of JM was. Those decisions were in the best interest of ASU. The bad choice is Scott Satterfield. He's a good guy and good QB coach and solid OC but not head coach material, IMO. I said that the day he was announced. I had us losing two games if JM returned and four when Satterfield took the job. Sad part is that I think we will lose more than the four I expected with Satterfield. We will lose no less than 7 games this year unless something major changes.

We are simply a bad football team on both sides of the line. We get worse each week, not better. Long year. We have better talent than A&T and CSU, but they whipped us. Looks like they both did not get the message that these were money games.

Re: Is this the future?
We cannot beat anyone that we let hang around a ball game and not put them away. I will not give up on this team yet, but we gotta do better. Its freaking 3:45 AM and this crap is keeeping me awake.
Stupid penalties and bad decisions. Mountaineer football is better than this. We should never lose to Big South & MEAC teams IMO.
Stats tell the sad story too:
Time of Possession: CSU 42:04, APP ST 17:56
1st Downs: CSU 27, APP ST 18
3rd down efficiency: CSU 10-18, APP ST 3-8
4th down efficiency: CSU 3-3, APP ST 0-2
Total Yards: CSU 428, APP ST 424
Penalties: CSU 4-41, APP ST 7-68

Enough with the Moore crap. Has nothing to do with anything including Shinola.mgsouth wrote:Maybe this is just what happens when a legend that was still producing winning seasons, conf. championships, and playoff births and who won 3 titles is forced to leave before he is ready. He wasn't getting it done in the playoffs against teams we should have beat. Just before he became a "legend" he was almost fired. He didn't want FBS anyway, so just stop telling us about Moore. As John Fox would say, "It is what it is." You cannot take a time machine back, so play the cards you are dealt. It's the here and now we are dealing with.

Re: Is this the future?
I can't see another win for this team this year. Just my opinion, but the team doesn't appear to have the character and the coaches don't have the ability to change the dismal effort and play calling we have witnessed to this point. If we lose the next one, we will lose out, IMO. And UGA will be national embarrassment. We will be forced to asked them to not stop the clock in the fourth quarter.
There have been quite a few of us for years complaining about the lack of focus on the line recruits on both sides. We looked so small last night, especially on D, and we were just dominated agin. This is about 5 straight years of continual decline on the line play and recruitment and it started showing up in the playoffs with arse whippings at home by CAA teams.
