Shame on you AppNation!
As a long-time season ticket holder and alumnus of Appalachian I am very upset by what I’ve seen this season. Not the play on the field, the coaching, the off the field behavior but by our fans in our own stadium.
I expect to have the occasional fan yell profanity at an opposing player, referee, even our own players and coaches. But the total lack of self-control I’ve witnessed by our fans during the start of this season could ultimately cause me to stop coming to the Rock.
I love the game day experience. I’ve shared it with my wife (also an alumnus), our children, our friends, my co-workers and even my clients. But during yesterday’s game I had to tell multiple adults around us to stop the profanity. The guy seated next to my 7 year-old son was cussing like a sailor. At the end of the game I watched a 55+ year-old man cussing at the Buccaneers players who were justifiably celebrating their well-deserved upset. Calling them, “A bunch of Fxxxxng losers”. How Ironic!
Fans who yelled at the last two opponents to (modified clean version) “Show some class!” and “Act like you’ve won before!”, should look in the mirror. Either tip your hats to the victor and congratulate them or turn and walk away. Staying to the end to cuss and denigrate a team that just beat our Mountaineers epitomizes poor sportsmanship.
I will continue to support my university. I’ll continue to cheer for the players who represent Appalachian State. But I will not be associated with people who can’t win and loss with decency.
I want to see more wins, but the only reason I’ll stop coming to games is if I’m embarrassed by those around me, not the performance of our team! We’re better than this!

Agreed.
We can't even stop cursing on our own monitored message board.
F****** was used just yesterday. Name calling is a common thing too.
We can't even get along with different opinions on here much less people in the stands. And, we all kind of know each other at least by handle...

Re: Shame on you AppNation!
You have a right to be upset about recent fan behavior. Unfortunately the play on the field has become a reflection of some of those in the stands. A sad but true reality on both ends, unfortunately. My advice to you would be (A) to find the nearest usher (redcoat) and point out those who are displaying "vulgarities" in your section or (B) maybe find another team to root for this season whether traveling to their stadium or watching from the convenience of your living room with your young one. Because it's gonna be a long year, and fans are around you are gonna do what they are gonna do, when such is the case. Just my two cents. Hope this helps. Go APPS!

Dman, thats a fair point.
Watching our fans' behavior reminds me of my dad's rule: "Win with class, lose with class. There are no other options when representing this family."

It's really a shame. It's reaching the point that the board is becoming unbearable and it's been going this way since before this season began. Used to be insight and insider information and constructive conversations. Now it's name calling, cursing, and nothing but arguing to argue. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, no one makes me come here and no one is making me come here even less these days. I guess it's time to start watching politics so we can enjoy civil debate and well behaved people.

Re: Shame on you AppNation!
We, as fans, make the stadium experience what we want it to be. If we are bothered by what we see and hear, we have a duty to step up and change it. If we don't, we are as much as condoning it.
The same is true for this board, or any other message board. It is what we, as the members, want it to be. The disintegration of conversation on here is a reflection of what is going on in our society. There is no civil discourse any longer. It's all about who can yell the loudest and the longest. If we want it to change, then we have to make it change. No matter how much I'd like to, I cannot moderate people into civil behavior. I can, and do, delete name calling and I try to edit the profanities, although I occasionally miss one, but I cannot make people play nice.
Overall, I have to agree that I am very disturbed by what we have become and what it seems we are becoming. Maybe this trip we are on, to a bad season, will help some of fans to regain some perspective and start to behave like human beings again.

Re: Shame on you AppNation!
I have sat in 111 for the last 10 seasons. It is directly behind the visiting bench. I have been ashamed to see what some of our fans yell at 18-20 year old kids. I have also endured some midget behind me who likes to yell obsenities at our coaches. He also seems to think he is a coach. His idea of throwing the ball everyplay would surely work I guess. I guess he hasnt realized the coaches cant hear him, and he just looks like an azz to those around him. Like they say you cant fix stupid.

I'm not sure I understand... Why do you have to delete name calling and edit profanities? Why not ban the individuals who do these things? Is it not board rules that you can't do these things?

Re: Shame on you AppNation!
I agree whole heatedly agree about people's behavior at the game in KBS. Anyone I hear booing or cussing our own team I address personally and compel them to stop.AppGrad1 wrote: F****** was used just yesterday.
Now when it comes to F-bombs on message boards, I think you might be getting a bit too glass-jawed. There is absolutely no difference between you writing "F***" and someone typing it out. It is perceived as the same word because it is the same word.

Difference is one was used as profanity and the other was used in reporting it.Gonzo wrote:I agree whole heatedly agree about people's behavior at the game in KBS. As far as the East is to the West...
Hey, I'm not arguing the fact. If the board rules it's ok then fine, I'll stay away from this board. If board rules say you can't call names and use profanity then it should be strictly enforced...
PS... This video shows proof positive that you do not care what board rules say...
If you can get by posting this video on an ASU message board then all rules should be thrown out the door.

I'm not sure what the policy is. Obviously there isn't an auto-edit filter like most sites, but people use profanity so infrequently that I've never even seen it as an issue before you brought it up.AppGrad1 wrote:Difference is one was used as profanity and the other was used in reporting it.Gonzo wrote:I agree whole heatedly agree about people's behavior at the game in KBS. The last thing I would want to do is dissuade a fellow App fan from visiting the primary message board, but I think you're being a bit unreasonable. I assume you're a grown man. In certain company the use of certain language is obviously inappropriate. In the context of football talk, there may be a course word here and there. And it might happen once every two months on Yosef's Cabin.
I hope it would take more than four letters strung together and healthy discourse between people with differing opinions to drive you from the board. Hope you stick around.
Go Apps.

I delete them because they violate the rules and because I don't want people to have to read a bunch of profanities. I don't think I ever mentioned how I deal with those that are guilty of those offenses, and I'm still not going to.AppGrad1 wrote:appst89 wrote:We, as fans, make the stadium experience what we want it to be. Sorry I can't be on here 24/7 just waiting to delete anything that anyone might find offensive. I guess I gave the posters here too much credit by assuming they could just not read something.

In response to your post's little addition that was made after my response as well as your "ban all users that use bad words" policy from earlier:AppGrad1 wrote: PS... This video shows proof positive that you do not care what board rules say...

You are a perfect example of a lot of what is wrong with our society. Using your own free will you click play on a Louie CK video entitled "the N-Word," and then you cry about it like it's the world's responsibility to shelter you from something to which a reasonable adult would never blink and eye. When a mod spots a dirty word, he deletes it. That is plenty of regulation by a reasonable person's standard. You're behaving like YC is a Chris Rock show. Do you homeschool your kids because of sex ed?

You have misunderstood my post. I've never asked why you are not here 24/7. That was never mentioned nor implied. You talked about what is wrong with people these days and I just made a statement of instead of sitting around having to delete or edit certain posters profanities why not just ban them IF they are continue breaking board rules. Sorry if it came across as if I didn't think you were doing your job...appst89 wrote:I delete them because they violate the rules and because I don't want people to have to read a bunch of profanities. Re: Shame on you AppNation!
I hate to say it but I have to agree with you this time, lol. I so rarely see profanity here that I don't think it's much of an issue. Yeah we get a few "masked" words here and there and a few actually words, but it's not very common and most likely less than what someone would hear in real life.Gonzo wrote:

I also like the fact that the mod's have a little restraint before just banning people, because once you go down that road it's really hard to say what is acceptable.

You said I am what's wrong with our society? You then mention I used my own free will to click on this video and then complained about it.
Well, I clicked on the video thinking it was related to the title and that you were trying to prove some point to me only to find out it was laced with profanities again. I clicked it off way before it ever finished too.
I am what's wrong with society???????????
You curse on this message board with words other than the occasional 4 letter words.....
You bully people on this board all the time.....
You call people names on this board all the time.....
You post offensive videos on this board.....
You make snide remarks to people.....
Please tell me when I have done ANY of these things.
I thought this board was here to discuss ASU football and other topics.
Nope, you've got it wrong, all wrong. There are not enough people in society that don't curse, name call, bully, etc these days. To bad I don't control the ban button on this board...
PS.. The sex ed comment was very elementary school, even for you...
