Gadsden flag
Gadsden flag
Am I the only one that thought that:
A: The App - State cheer before/during the presentation of the flag
and
B: The raising of the Gadsden flag by a student.... and then keeping it raised during the national anthem
was completely and utterly unnecessary last Saturday?

I was watching on TV and it was certainly weird with the Anthem playing and camera/mics catching the cheers at the same time - not what I would call classy ---vegattk wrote:Am I the only one that thought that:

Traditionally, the first App State chant begins at the moment the national anthem ends.
I miss ONE game in 6 years and you guys screw it up.

well I may be the only one who thinks the entire pregame was unnecessary last Saturday. Whoever is coordinating (not) the pregame needs some help.vegattk wrote:Am I the only one that thought that:

No, you weren't the only one who noticed that. To say I was disappointed is a bit of an understatement.
Also, would someone clue me in on what the students were saying on the kickoffs?

There have quite a few horror stories from last weekend...I guess I should be happy that I couldn't make it up the mountain.

Yes...rejoice and give thanks...it was pretty much a debacle in every way...except the weather.ASUMountaineer wrote:There have quite a few horror stories from last weekend...I guess I should be happy that I couldn't make it up the mountain.

What happened to the Olympic theme and everyone standing and pointing to our endzone??? - unless we are playing and beating the Holes I do believe this chant is inappropriate ---Gonzo wrote:I believe it's something like ooOOHHHHH! Thanks. I was hoping these old ears were mis-hearing. How do we encourage the students not to be jerks?Gonzo wrote:I believe it's something like ooOOHHHHH! BOOM! Yeah, it's probably a good thing I'm as far away from Boone as I am. I think I've had a thread bitching about the game day experience changes every year.ASUMountaineer wrote:There have quite a few horror stories from last weekend...I guess I should be happy that I couldn't make it up the mountain.

Re: Gadsden flag
That's still done, I think? Hard to tell over all the piped in garbage they play these days. Seriously, this isn't the NFL, we have a band to play music. I sat behind the student section (second row 205) and did not notice the 'you suck' chant'. Not saying it didn't happen though.WVAPPeer wrote:What happened to the Olympic theme and everyone standing and pointing to our endzone??? - unless we are playing and beating the Holes I do believe this chant is inappropriate ---Gonzo wrote:I believe it's something like ooOOHHHHH! I unfortunately missed my 1st home opener in 15 years for A&T. Last weekend was my first trip back since the end of the '12 season. I must say I was highly disappointed in the students kick-off chant. Classless in my opinion. Especially when our kick-off and punt coverage has been suspect for many years. Of all plays, I don't think that is the play to show arrogance on - not that there is a time or play to show arrogance.
I have always thought we have had a loud and intimidating student body at games and while there are always bad apples, in general as a whole it has been kept classy. That chant I heard Saturday is the stuff I would expect out of gnatsboro, not on the mountain. Hopefully someone can put a stop to it.

Re: Gadsden flag
Yeah everyone still points. It's the same as it's ever been during my time, only now they added the "you suck, ass hole!"
Of course I'm assuming there is in fact a comma. It would be pretty weird if that was not the intention of the students and they were getting really graphic/specific.

Re: Gadsden flag
Looks like the CLASS program needs to step it up a bit again. I like the students' idea and enthusiasm, but the chant itself needs a makeover. That stuff won't look good for TV games.
