Why?

Why are there so many tickets for the Homecoming game being sold and even given away when when this game today may be the turning point for the rest of our season? To top it off, the weather is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous?
In my opinion, we should have already lost our only SoCon game already. It's not too late. Today is the day to START making a statement for our farewell tour of the SoCon....if we are going to and I think we can. When Samford was first being talked about as a candidate for membership, there were several on here and the AGS who said their admission was a joke.

not surprised, every school has a large number of fans, who only show up when the team is winning and living up to expectations. I live here in Florida, and Florida States attendance has been down probably 20 percent the last 3 or 4 years. Now, they are winning again, and every home game is a sellout. Its a tough pill to swallow, everyone wants to believe that their fan base is different, and will show up no matter what, but that just isnt the case. I wouldn't be surprised to see our attendance drop into the high teens, but unlike alot of post, especially on another message board, I don't think we are destined to get our asses kicked week in, week out for the next 10 years, and become the Western Carolina of the Sun Belt. We will be fine, and the fans will return.

I agree, fans are fickle no matter the program. Even those teams who are widely known for their revenous fan base will see drops in attendence during "off" years. Fickle fans do not discriminate based history, recent or long term, school, professional or sport. Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan has all experienced football season without sell-outs, even Duke had articles posted a few years ago about tickets being available to Cameron Indoor for ACC games.

It takes the dedicated core plus the fickle entertainment seekers to fill The Rock. I expect attendence will be down this year, and possibly next for a variety of reasons (more losses, no post season, etc.) but I believe in our program and the wins and fans along with them will comeback. I believe even bigger wins and more fans in the not to distant future.

I did not post in the prediction thread but we will win tomorrow. I think we match up better against this team. I would not be surprised to see a big win. Also I would not worry too much about the ticket stuff. I think we know there is an element of softness in our fan base. If you don't believe that statement watch what happens at half time tomorrow no matter what is going on in the game. If you are still not convinced watch what happens with about 3 or 4 minutes left in the fourth regardless of what is going on in the game.

You are preaching to the choir, so to speak, Moeler. The success of the team over the past several years W/L wise has boosted attendance at the Rock more so than CC's efforts to create the game day experience so many tail gate lovers crave. I was actually posing a rhetorical question.
It is a shame we have to win to even come close to packing the Rock, but as you say that is typical of fickle fans to stay away. Many of us are there even when the team sux...which contrary to popular opinion on this board has been a looong time ago.

I don't have the stats, but I know I have tickets purchased only days ago smack dab in the high roller section of the West (home) Side. Given this is homecoming, the number of tickets bought and sold on here should be minimal.

Homecoming or not, this is a game with Little Sammie. Everyone knows the Sammies are coached by a Heisman Trophy winner--but he can't play. I'm as big a fan as anyone and have four seats for this game and every game--but I'm having a hard time getting motivated to drive up the mountain. So even if we beat 'em, the casual fan over in Hickory, Charlotte, Raleigh or Greenville will say...So what?"

The game is virtually meaningless--except--that it's a chance for the Apps to get the train back on the track.

I feel the same way about considering road trips to Louisiana-Lafayette, New Mexico State, etc. At least Samford is a great but small academic school. I wish to Hades that App had Pat Sullivan or the like. He is a class act and know the game far better than either JB or Satt..
As to Sammie, I imagine that Michigan felt the same way about us until we kicked their azzes.
As for me, I couldn't care less what the fans in Charlotte, Hickory, Raleigh, or Greenville think.. They still send their kids to App to enroll and usually do quite well and represent us equally well.

Just because fans sell their tickets does not always mean they quit supporting ASU.
Things come up unannounced.

Of course they do, it just seems like an inordinate amount given the positive weather forecast and the fact that it is Homecoming and arguably the turning point for our season. I would save my money to go to Georgia but my significant other loves Homecomings and all that stuff. And to boot she is paying for the tickets, parking pass, motel, etc. I'm only driving, paying for the gas, and the meals.

I could care less if it's Little Sammie or ECU, etc I'm there to see the Apps play regardless of whom we are facing.

Where are all the tickets? I see three or four on here every now and then, 2 on stubhub, and @ goasu just a few random ones in the stands.

I'm just asking, because I would have asked on here first but I haven't really seen that many.

one more thing, I'm not trying to be critical of our fan base, just stating the facts of what happens with every program in America, also, I live in Florida and make maybe one game a year, I think I am the last person who should be critizing our fan base.

How about we wait and see what the attendance actually is tomorrow before we jump to conclusion about tickets being sold on a message board?

For what it's worth, I don't think it's being critical of the overall fan base that App football has it's fair share of band wagoneers. It is the nature of the beast. I actually believe that our ratio of dedicated fans to fickle fans is much better than many other programs around the area.

2 home losses followed by a handful of tickets being sold for the third is way too early to start bemoaning low attendance.

It is most likely that more people are finding out that this is a good place to sell tickets they can't use.

It is so people like you who don't have season tickets can find good seats from people who have purchased them and now find they are not able to attend.

I think it will be at capacity. All I am referencing is the amount of traffic on here of fans giving up tickets. If it weren't homecoming and the weather projected to be perfect. I would think nothing of it.
