That Last Samford Touchdown

Unread post by fjblair » Thu Oct 17, 2013 5:15 pm

That was a low blow. I know it's our job to stop them but it could not have been a proud moment for little sammy. I know we will never play them again but I would love to get them one more time. We have laid the wood to a lot of teams over the years but never took such a cheap shot.

Disappointed but not surprised. They thought they were robbed last year. What goes around comes around. They will get theirs eventually. Maybe not at our hands but someone will take the air out of their sail.

I would be embarrassed if App had done that. However, I'm glad Samford did it to us Saturday. Whatever it takes to build a fire, hit a nerve, make someone mad, p off someone, etc.....I'll take it.

And that goes for fans as well as coaches and players.

Didn't really have any problem with it. It was completely within our control to stop it. They did their jobs, we didn't.

I agree. I didn't really see it as classless, although I hope that we would kneel down in the same situation. It did start to feel like an intentional shot at us when accompanied by their fan's SoCon chant in apparent mocking of our departure.

1-6 is their record vs us folks. They are cowards for "mocking" us.

If you didn't perceive it as a classless move then why would you hope that we would take a knee in the same situation? I don't know how it could be construed as anything other than classless. I bet even Elon would have run out the clock ;)

We should expect as much. Our farewell tour has turned into "Come one, come all to the Rock- Step right up, kick our arse, and party like rock stars on our field." If it bothers the team (and coaches) they should do something about it. If it doesn't bother them, they should get the hell out of Boone.

We need a good high school coach to come in and kick our players butts.
Not sure whether more disappointed in the players or coaches.

After Sammy got that last 1st down, I turned to my wife and said that we would see how much class their coach has. Well, he didn't take knees and ran a play which resulted in the touchdown. It didn't upset me as I kind of expected it. Maybe if they score a meaningless touchdown late in their next game, they will move into the Top 25...

They could have scored 100 and it wouldn't have made up for the overwhelmingly lopsided series between us. Let them have their "revenge" during our rebuilding/transition year.

In 3 years no one will even remember who Samford is, let alone that they beat us once out of 7 games while we were in the same conference.

Well, Elon has to get the lead against us at the end of a game first...

I didn't like them not taking a knee, but the playoff committee looks at margins of victory when selecting and seeding teams.

Had we not taken a timeout with 3:13 left down 17 I seriously doubt they would have tacked on the last score.

You play for 60 minutes. Have no problem with what they did. Like a previous poster stated, in three years who is going to remember Samford? Go App!

It was a third sting running back....

Let the kid score if he can...... you folks are crybabies.

Take a knee..... this is college football not K-3 Soccer.

I couldn't agree more. It's not like they were throwing the ball all over the place. They lined up, handed it off and we simply could not stop it. That's on us folks, it's not on them!!

If we didn't want them to score another touchdown, we should have stopped them. Pretty simple.

At that point in the game, Watauga High could have probably scored on them.

I thought it was rather classless but don't really have a problem with it. App's kicked their azz ever since they got in the SoCon and for once Sammy is actually in position to make the playoffs. That margin of victory could be the difference in seeding for them if they get that far.

The way App has dominated the SoCon in recent years it's no surprise that every SoCon team will try and get their pound of flesh if given the opportunity. Hopefully that TD will piss some Apps off enough to get them to smack someone in the mouth; hopefully someone wearing Purple this weekend.
