Officiating Vs. GSU
Officiating Vs. GSU
This was the worst crew we have had all year.
Worst spots all year! The one on 3rd down on the first possession was abysmal!
So a kid gets pushed out of bounds ends up near the stands and raises his arms to get the fans fired up and he gets a penalty? UNSPORTSMANSHIP?
This one came up on the call in show by "Melody". We were talking about it all day as i sit in front of one of players dad's. The GS center literally moved the ball FORWARD before the snap on nearly every play sometimes as much as half a yard....but ALWAYS at least the length of the football! NEVER any call.
Karl Anderson would have had 25 tackles if he had not been held on nearly every sweep! He was getting literally spun sideways by the holds.
Is there any video available to look at the GS center snap issue? Where would I look?

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
Agree 100 percent, I haven't been that angry all season long than that 3rd down stop on GS first position. What really upset me is two of the refs marked him short, but the 3rd ref came in and over ruled . SC refs are just pathetic, basically high school talent, can't wait to get the hell out next year, and never have to deal with them again.
Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I agree. This crew represented a new low in the world of officiating.
The unsportsmanlike penalty against Cox was truly outrageous. I thought at the time that the refs thought he was taunting the GaSo fans in their section. The PROBLEM was that he was clearly in front of, and gesturing to, the App fans BESIDE the visitors section. Ya reckon them refs were color blind?
The more important bad call was when App's D held on that 3rd down on GaSo's first possession. The two side refs had the mark correct, and then they were overruled and the ball advanced for a first down by the UMPIRE!!!!! What sort of idiotic move was that??? It was bad beyond belief.
But, I knew App would be OK because on that one drive in the first half, we gained about 130 yards, got penalized at least 50 yds., AND KICKED A 46 yd field goal!!!!
And, what about that play where the ref could not get out of the way, and Cox could have run for another 15 yds. if he had.
Surely someone with the SoCon office will see the tape and straighten out this mess ... yeah, right.
This is just another reason to look forward to the SunBelt. They cannot have worse referring.

Cox got picked by that ref twice. I was hoping on the third time, he'd just run the fatass over and be done with it. Since he's part of the field, make him part of the field.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
This won't be a popular opinion on here, but we're wasting good keystrokes on a keyboard when we complain about officiating. Here's a secret, fans of every college football team in the nation think their team got jobbed yesterday. They think the refs in their league are the worst refs of all time. And if we just had the refs from ... oh, pick a conference ... then we'd be better off. Truth is, refs are going to make calls that we don't agree with as we look on from considerable distance through our black and gold-color glasses. The unsportsmanlike on Cox certainly drew my ire. But we really ought to pick something else to complain about. We'd look a lot less petty.
Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
Agree wholeheartedly with the above comments, but their ineptness did help on one occasion, in the second half they awarded a fumble recovery to App, when I think the correct call would have been incomplete. From where i was at the Qb looked to throw the ball about 1-1/2 yards forward, the replay looked the same...I guess that was a little good karma for all the horrific calls during the first half. The spotting of the ball was bad all day for both sides as well...Didnt notice the snap issues, but with the center getting in a 4 point stance I could see where that would happen....I would like to see SS get a little more animated at the Ref's on some of the more gregariously bad calls, if nothing else, to show that he has his players back, to fire up the crowd, and to let the men is stripes know that they can expect to hear from him all day.

I was very vocal yesterday about my opinion of the 3rd down spot in the 1st quarter...after watching the replay today I'm not so sure they didn't get it right.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
Of the laundry list of small-time nonsense we put up with in the SmallCon, this issue is probably the most frustrating. They are comically bad, especially yesterday. I laughed out loud at some of those spots.
Is it July 1, 2014 yet?
On a related not, I love the irony of this thread. This is the first year in recent memory in which there was no GaSo fan ref-blaming meltdown after we beat them. I believe they attacked the officials' van post-loss last year.

I will confess to being as guilty as anyone about yelling at the refs during the course of a game. IMO, the refs were pretty bad yesterday. However, I can't remember a game where ASU (or any of my teams) lost because of the refs. Yes, they may impact the final score but even when a bad call occurs late in a close game, there usually was a few plays before or after the call when our team should have taken care of business on their own. Sometimes it's a few hours after the game before this really sinks inAppGrad78 wrote:This won't be a popular opinion on here, but we're wasting good keystrokes on a keyboard when we complain about officiating. Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I agree to a point, especially after a loss. I don't think the refs were partial toward any one team in this case (or in many cases, for that matter) but they were quite inept. Usually, the App/GaSou officiating is the best we see all year, but with our upcoming departure, coupled with our record, we didn't get the cream of the crop.AppGrad78 wrote:This won't be a popular opinion on here, but we're wasting good keystrokes on a keyboard when we complain about officiating. Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
The SmallCon didn't like APP to begin with, now they hate us for leaving, and it shows in their officials calling that game.
Again there is a reason they aren't calling games in the SEC.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
just because they didn't cost us the game, doesn't mean we should let them off the hook for being horrible at their job. Even Brownie yesterday was really choosing his words carefully, after some of the calls. Overall, Im glad he took the high road, and showed some class, but their was a small part of me that wished he would have said what he really thought.

A few others and myself were trying to start a "Ref you suck!" chant but it didn't catch on like we had hoped. It works a lot better at hockey games.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I commented earlier about the officiating. It was maybe the worst I have ever seen in game in which we were involved. Atrocious. Get me out of this black hole that is the socon. Sad to see what this once grand conference has become with pip squeak additions and Mickey Mouse leadership and officiating.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
The unsportsmanlike call on Marcus happened right in front of us. The call was not necessary. He was neither drawing attention to himself nor taunting. He was showing energy and emotion. The official demonstrated poor judgement tossing that flag.

That high school/SoCon ref was probably thinking he was taunting visiting fans. Because after all, that is the visitor's side.App74 wrote:The unsportsmanlike call on Marcus happened right in front of us. The call was not necessary. Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I am. The ball should have been spotted with its nose just over the 29. Instead it was spotted with its nose just over the 30. But as mentioned by several others, this crew was not very detail minded when it came to spotting the ball. Anywhere within 2-3 yards was close enough for them.proasu89 wrote:I was very vocal yesterday about my opinion of the 3rd down spot in the 1st quarter...after watching the replay today I'm not so sure they didn't get it right.
I think Marcus deserved the taunting call. If you do things like that you put yourself in a position to get a flag. He's a great kid that obviously plays with a lot of heart and I hope he learned a lesson he never forgets.

Re: Officiating Vs. GSU
I think it was the dumbest call I have ever seen. He was pumping up our fans, not doing it in front of the GSU fans. If it would have been on our side, nothing would have happened. I just think it was BS call by the officials. Just another stab at us. JMOCVAPP wrote:I think Marcus deserved the taunting call. Whom was he taunting? I thought that call was complete BS.
