Liberty Posters Claim 2014 Game in Boone
Liberty Posters Claim 2014 Game in Boone
Hearing from a LU poster that Liberty University will have a football game in Boone in 2014.
I am shocked after all the back and forth with their posters in the Sun Belt thread for months, and
our student senate (or whatever) requesting we never play them in football again years ago because of some Jerry Falwell remarks.

This would be shocking because TB said it would be a CUSA team...GoApps70 wrote:Hearing from a LU poster that Liberty University will have a football game in Boone in 2014.

Assuming it doesn't replace the Campbell game, then yes.appbio91 wrote:So would this fill out our home schedule in 2014?

I hope it is replacing Campbell. If not and assuming the information is accurate, the CUSA deal must have fell through or dates were changed.ASUMountaineer wrote:Assuming it doesn't replace the Campbell game, then yes.appbio91 wrote:So would this fill out our home schedule in 2014?

Here's a thought. Since Campbell is non scholarship, it doesn't count toward bowl eligibility. Maybe we did change. We won't be bowl eligible next year, unless there are not enough bowl-eligible teams to fill all of the slots. It would be unfortunate if we had six wins, and the stars somehow aligned, but we couldn't go, because we were unable count the Campbell game.

Campbell and Liberty? Are we moving to the FBS or Big South? Very disappointing, if true.

Falwell U is an acceptable substitute for Campbell. If it's in addition to Campbell, this is a terrible decision.
I thought we had a running boycott on JFU.

The same twitter poster who works for the paper in Lynchburg has said he was mistaken and now saying it is happening. I don't think this guy is working with good information.

Lang was referring to a tweet he took down that said LU still had 1 FCS slot left to fill to make the schedule complete. That was wrong, since they added Bryant recently. The App LU game will apparently be announced this afternoon by App.

Re: Liberty Posters Claim 2014 Game in Boone
Tommy Bowman said we would start a home and home in 2014 with a C-USA team. Never said we would be the home team in 2014. We would likely be on the road in 2014 for that series and home in 2015. This would line up with playing at Old Dominion in 2015 and playing ODU in Boone in 2016.ASUMountaineer wrote:This would be shocking because TB said it would be a CUSA team...GoApps70 wrote:Hearing from a LU poster that Liberty University will have a football game in Boone in 2014.

We will likely still play one FCS game a year to get 6 home games a year. We will also play one money game a year (Michigan). The other two games after 2014 will be alternating home and homes with FBS opponents.

I would not be surprised if the team was not a familiar one to us old hats!Goapps15 wrote:Tommy Bowman said we would start a home and home in 2014 with a C-USA team. That's fine. But, based on your last paragraph, we're playing 2 FCS teams next season.Goapps15 wrote:Tommy Bowman said we would start a home and home in 2014 with a C-USA team. Re: Liberty Posters Claim 2014 Game in Boone
Yes next year we will be playing two FCS schools it is a one-year issue. If it happens after next year I will be upset but if it is only next year then there is nothing to worry about. The reason for two FCS home games next year is to get us to 6 total home games. In 2015, one of the C-USA teams will be in Boone and the other will be at ODU.ASUMountaineer wrote:That's fine. Re: Liberty Posters Claim 2014 Game in Boone
Thanks for the explanation. With TB saying it was a CUSA team next year, but not specifying it would be away, I was holding out hope that it was home. Oh well, as Veg said, who can complain about another weekend in Boone?Goapps15 wrote:Yes next year we will be playing two FCS schools it is a one-year issue. Re: Liberty Posters Claim 2014 Game in Boone
My assumption was always that the 3 home-and-homes would all start away, with the return trip to Boone the next season. I'm also guessing that we will continue to play a "money" game at a B1G, ACC, or SEC opponent each season. We also have a stated goal of 6 home games each season. That gives us this for OOC (home games in bold):
2014
-at Michigan
-at CUSA
-Liberty
-Campbell
2015
-at ODU
-at P5 (B1G, ACC, SEC)
-CUSA
-FCS
2016
-at MAC
-at P5
-ODU
-FCS
2017
-at G5 (CUSA, MAC, MWC, AAC)
-at P5
-MAC
-FCS
This seems to be the general template followed by most Sun Belt schools for OOC (1 FCS home, 1 G5 home, 1 G5 away, 1 P5 away)
2014
-at Michigan
-at CUSA
-Liberty
-Campbell
2015
-at ODU
-at P5 (B1G, ACC, SEC)
-CUSA
-FCS
2016
-at MAC
-at P5
-ODU
-FCS
2017
-at G5 (CUSA, MAC, MWC, AAC)
-at P5
-MAC
-FCS

Re: Liberty Posters Claim 2014 Game in Boone
Bowman said a month ago that we would probably have to play a second FCS team in 2014 because of how hard it is to do a home and home on short notice. So it's not surprising.
I'm just happy it's not a SoCon team.
