After watching the Seattle game last night I really like their ritual of raising the 12th Man flag just before kickoff. Man, did the fans react to that. Right now App fans start the APP - STATE chant at 5 minutes before kickoff to "call the team out." I believe we can enhance the effect of this ritual by raising our own flag. I propose that a flag pole be installed vicinity of Owens Field House, and at 5 minutes til we hoist a huge Victory Yosef flag to signal the start of the APP - STATE chant. I believe this would become a fantastic new way to boost App State pride and excitement. Needless to say I am very proud of our new, but vintage logo. Let West Virginia have their Davey Crocket, I'll take Yosef anyday because our school represents the heritage of the southern Appalachian Mountain people. They were and are a tough bunch. And from what I have read the mountain people represent many ethnic groups, including the Irish, German, and African. And, one aspect of this heritage that I particularly like is the history of the Plott Hounds. These are big game hunting hounds introduced to the southern mountains by a German family, the Plotts. Today, the Plott Hound is North Carolina's state dog. ASU is sitting on a gold mine, all we have to do is embrace it and exploit it!

That's a great idea. I've always thought that App should invest in a Plott Hound and have it run out of the tunnel with Yosef before the team comes out onto the field. To make it better Yosef should be running with a shotgun. Having a Plott Hound as part of our secondary Mascot to Yosef would be awesome.

If there was a bowing smiley I'd be using it right now. That would be awesome. And if using Victory Yosef raises the hackles of GoApps70 (and assorted others) while at the game, I'm doubly for it.

The Plott Hound idea has been thrown out here on the MMB before and I think it is a fantastic idea! Has anyone ever proposed it to the administration?

The MMB bought the first long rifle when it was reintroduced at the football games. IF the administration approved the Plott Hound, I'm in for the fist donaion to the MMB Plott Hound Fund.

appgrunt, that's a fantastic idea. Put the flag pole on top of the videoboard or the field house for ALL to see (especially GoApps70).

This one is only a 3x5, but a bigger version of this would look great!

I think to incentivize the noise level in KBS we should tie in a decibal meter to the video board. This would be very easy as you could download an app and would improve the gameday experience of emphasizing the importance of the fans. I think we could even tie this in with a local business for incentive purposes (i.e. once the fans reach a certain decibal and sustain it for a specific time then they could recieve cupons to food/businesses around town).

I have sent this request to the marketing department and recieved a reply that this would be a good idea. However, I have not seen any action on this and it was sent over a year ago.

What do you guys think?

Please yes to the pregame flag raising to get APP STATE chant going ad a big ole YES to Plott Hound running onto field with Yosef ! Tennesse has Ol Smoky and Georgia has UGA but how bout a Plott Hound walking the sidelines for App games ! That would be something !

I have always wanted them to build a small replica of a Mountaineer cabin on the hill by the scoreboard. The crowd starts the APP-STATE chant. Have Yosef come out of the cabin and fire his rifle to summon the team out of the tunnel.

I am not sure about this. What color uniform would the Plott Hound be wearing?

I would like to open the first FBS home game with the Duck Dynasty guys on the field saying, "WELCOME TO THE ROCK" and the team come running out.

Duck guys are ULM fans doubtful they do anything for a conference opponent.

I'd be happy if everyone were in their seats before pregame and joined Sean Connery yelling Welcome to the Rock, followed by a blast from the long rifle. Big fan of noise meters. Always envisioned a long rifle longways across the top of the scoreboard with shock waves, or smoke, in front of the barrel that lights up farther out as the noise level goes up. I also want the ROTC cannon brought back. That thing was awesome!

Okay, I like it but the App - State Chant should be started by Yosef- a human Yosef with a beard, In boots, black pants, yellow/gold and black plaid flannel shirt with suspenders,, hat, long rifle and plot hound standing at the 50 yard line after walking out of the tunnel with his hound. He can start it off by taking of his/ tipping his hat or raising the rifle over his head. and finish it with the firing of the rifle. End the fireworks and special effects as that is all we need.
Get the BOD involved by parting and making a path to the fifty "clearing a spot for it. Now for a lead in song..."Yikas"?????. Play the Sean Connery clip right before?

As the years go by once or twice a year we can have an honorary "Yosef" special guest start the chant accompanying him to the fifty. Make it kind of an alumni, hall of fame, friend to the university honor. If a real authentic long rifle is too temperamental, somebody can design a replica of some sort that should suffice.

Great ideas all around. I really like the idea of YOSEF'S Cabin on the hill, endzone, etc. That combined with the dog and rifle would be true buy-in to the mascot character.
