I hate to be harsh, but get rid of him now. It's time to set the bar for the kind of people we want representing our university.8993 wrote:According to The Appalachian, defensive back, Alex Gray, has been suspended from the football team for assaulting his girlfriend with a closed fist. Re: Another day, another suspension...
Good god what is wrong with these kids? Getting in trouble for drinking underage or something minor is one thing, but assaulting a female?
Not to pass judgment on his guilt. But pending an investigation I hope he never wears the black and gold again. It's the unfortunate side effect of recruiting in certain areas. Those areas may have top talent, but a lot of them are cultures where stuff like this is common place. Couple that with a hip hop culture that romanticizes violence, and you have stuff like this.
What a shame and what an embarrassment for the program.

Fine. I'll take the troll bait.
Studies prove that those who grow up in areas with high rates of domestic violence have a much higher chance of perpetrating the same violence when they become adults. That goes for Bobby-Joe in Honkeyville, USA or Jaquitis Jackson of Ghet-toe, GA. The modern rap culture, popular among today's youth of ALL RACES, romanticizes violence and violence against/objectification of women.
Get over yosef.

Yes, but that "violence" is controlled by rules and is "monitored" by an officiating crew and two coaching staffs. In addition, the "players" of this violent game are coached/prepared to face and counteract the body contact. They are also outfitted from head to toe with braces, padding and other protective gear. And the use of the bare fist is seriously "frowned upon." Girlfriends are not exactly prepared to protect themselves from vicious blows to the face.EastHallApp wrote:You know another culture that romanticizes violence? Football.
There's no way you can justify assault on a female by claiming that football somehow made the guy do it! Did basketball make another ASU player assault his girlfriend with his fists? Get real! It's a character issue!

Re: Another day, another suspension...
What these guys need is an appointment with a girls big brother or father. What they get from the system rarely results in them not doing it again. I would also say that sometimes you can spot these problems while recruiting but many time you can't. this will not be the last one we have but dealing with it quickly as has been done here will go a long way to controlling it.

How would you spot this type inclination while recruiting? The prep coaches would have to inform the recruiter of the players' propensities and that is unlikely even if the high school coaches even know.bcoach wrote:What these guys need is an appointment with a girls big brother or father. The culture of violence (and misogyny) in football isn't limited to the field, unfortunately.asu66 wrote:Yes, but that "violence" is controlled by rules and is "monitored" by an officiating crew and two coaching staffs. But I definitely didn't mean to imply that football "made the guy do it." Certainly if he is guilty, he is responsible for his own actions.

I agree, he doesn't need to wear ASU again. No reason for MALE to assault a female, esp a 6'3'' 210lb male.

Re: Another day, another suspension...
according to the police report. Gray was then charged with assault on a female and brought before Watauga County Magistrate David Gales and submitted a written promise to appear in court Jan. 21.
OK>...something really strange is going on here....In my 24yrs, I have NEVER heard of a written promise to appear on an assault on a female charge????? There is ALWAYS at least a 48hr period in jail before the person can get out....... Hmmmmmm

In your 24 years of what? Practicing law or being alive? If it's being alive, do you practice law somehow like the legal Doogie Howser? Again, if it is 24 years of age, how do you have any familiarity with the legal process here?AppState89 wrote:according to the police report.
