Beer sales
Beer sales
Would this work in Boone? It appears 5 Sunbelt schools already have this approach and the article promotes the advantage for those outside the exclusive power 5. Obviously App has a large payoff for the stadium enhancements, could this be a viable option?

Re: Beer sales
I could take it or leave it. I usually have a few while tailgating, which is good enough for me. That said, I would like to have the freedom to have a beer if I wanted one.

Re: Beer sales
Does North Carolina law allow it and does any other college in NC do it?

Re: Beer sales
I could care less. Bringing mini-bottles of liquor into a stadium and mixing a drink in the bathroom is what college football is all about.

Re: Beer sales
I'm definitely in favor of it because I am a beer drinker. But, you liquor drinkers should maybe proceed with caution.
I drink beer at tailgates, but its pretty impractical to sneak cans or bottles into games. So, I just sober up for three hours. But, its pretty easy to sneak liquor bottles into games (especially if you don't look like a student).
Right now, our stadium operates almost like bar/restaurant in a place with a brown bag law. You can literally get a cup of ice with a coke.
In the non-student sections, security is pretty relaxed with the liquor rules. That might change if it means lost revenue.

Re: Beer sales
So we fund our program off of student activity fees from college kids who are largely under age 21 and cannot legally drink. And then want to sell beer inside the stadium so we can make a few bucks for athletics. Something seems wrong with this picture, especially considering how aggressively ASU enforces student underage drinking behavior on campus.

Re: Beer sales
It's not ASU, per se, that cracks down so hard on student drinking at App games -- it's the ALE, which is a state agency, and Boone Police to a lesser extent.DoubleA wrote:So we fund our program off of student activity fees from college kids who are largely under age 21 and cannot legally drink. And it's not just under age kids who these pricks target. Try crossing the street with an open beer and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Beer sales
ASU is complicit in enforcement of underage drinking laws on campus and won't think twice before callimg Boone PD to enforce. To allow sales on campus seems just a bit hypocritical, iMO. My how things have changed from the days of legal drinking at age 18 and on- campus keg parties!

I don't see anything wrong with someone of legal age buying a legal drink. ASU might as well make money off of it as the ABC store. It's not like our "no drinking" policy is keeping the stadium alcohol free.

Re: Beer sales
App State already sells alcohol (beer and wine) at the stadium on gameday. The only difference is that they don't sell it at the main concourse, but in the Club Level.DoubleA wrote:ASU is complicit in enforcement of underage drinking laws on campus and won't think twice before callimg Boone PD to enforce.
