Just found out Tommy is leaving WSJ June 2 after 27 years covering mainly two topics APP STATE sports and auto racing. I known no one who gave the Mountaineers more, positive, accurate coverage than Tommy Bowman. App should recognize, or honor in someway. Hopefully somebody at App State will recognize his contribution and do something for him, maybe at one of the upcoming home FB games. Thanks Tommy!

I am really sad to hear that. Tommy gave the Apps great coverage and he seemed like a nice guy. I agree that someone from App should do something to thank him for his work.
I wonder if the WSJ will continue to cover App in the same way?
Tommy, if you still read the MMB, thanks for all you did in covering App sports. You will be missed.

Man I hate to hear that. Is he retiring or moving on to another job? By far the best beat reporter ever for ASU. This could be a really bad thing for ASU football coverage.

This can't be good for us, but hopefully is for him.

Good post, David. I think a special award for Tommy from the ASU Former Athletes' Association and/or ASU Athletics Hall of Fame is in-bounds. Tommy's work touched a "zillion" ASU athletes, alums and fans over the years. What an asset he has been to coverage of Appalachian.

Tommy and Mary Garber did wonders for covering ASU and all that is Mountaineer! I hope the WSJ doesn't let this position go to someone who bows to Franklin Street.

Thanks to all for the kind comments. No recognition needed, I just tried to do the job the best I could in a fair and impartial way and, for me, the reward has been getting to know a lot of fine people and collecting a lot of wonderful memories. My career highlight has been covering the Mountaineers. But it's time to explore new opportunities and possibilities. Thanks for reading over the years. I sincerely appreciate it.
