Calling on the 12th Man

I know I may be preaching to the choir here, but I want to address the importance of the task us fans bear this Saturday. Our team is facing a tough opponent, and is being labeled as the underdogs, even at home. Since the time the schedule was released, this was our most important home game of the year without a doubt, and still is. The Citadel showed us that we are definitely not invincible at home in the regular season, especially when facing an option offense. We as fans need to rise up to the occasion!
To those of you who were there last year - I know you remember the Georgia Southern game. I really believe the fans affected the outcome of that game as well as gave our team that extra bit of motivation required to pull out the win. We need to be every bit as loud Saturday when we face Wofford.

Let's go :!:

Here here!

All the old folks up there that sit on their hands every game need to actually stand up and make some noise. I feel like we'd have a terrible atmosphere if not for the fact that we have ~10,000 students at every game.

I am one of those "oldies" but wear crazy hats, yell like a kid and leave without a voice. Those around me think I am crazy. I embarrass others but you know what I don't really give a d--- I have a great time and that is what it has always been about. That and supporting the team. I'll be the one you hear yelling "STATE" every time you yell," APP."

This is my 4th year at App and I have yet to miss a home game or even leave a game early. I can honestly say the student section has gone down in spirit every single year. This year is slightly better about at least standing up the whole game, but it's still quieter than last year. I yell every down on defense, louder on 3rd down, and you'd be amazed at how many looks I got from people around me for doing so. Fellow students, who I'm used to yelling with me, basically gave me the "shut the h*** up" look. I don't really know how to fix it, I try to exude all the energy I can into the crowd around me but they seem more annoyed with noise than anything.

We'll be there in our usual loud form. All the folks in our crew will be yelling as usual ... except when we're on offense :D

My gang will be there and loud as usual. Due to my wife's pending hip replacement next month, we are in handicap seats directly behind the student section. Last game, we had an experience similar to Stealth thanks to a student. This prick kept looking at my wife and I, like we were bothering him. He was a couple rows below us. Eventually, my wife asked him what the problem was and he told her to sit down. Needless to say, I was ready to come over the rail to put him in his place (respect your elders) until my wife called me down. Funny thing, I would never expect that from a student who chose to sit in front of us...Anyway, we will be just a bit louder this week for good measure. Go APP!

Last game I was sitting with my nephews on the App side (I sit in the 110) and was told to please move, she had a headache! I moved to my seats and my 6 year old nephew probably was louder than me! LOL! He said he made her pay for running his aunt off! :D

I suppose I'm an "old folk" as I don't sit in the student section. However, I am very into the game and never leave early--or with a voice. I even bring an App Alum megaphone-type-thing that amplifies my big mouth. Not all of us sitting higher up in the stands sit on our hands...but, some of us frat douches still sport our Vineyard Vines.

You are so far from being "old" - you are closer to your date of birth than where we old-heads are right now, my "young" VP

After 2 road trips to Boone and 1 to Birmingham the last 3 weekends I can't make it up the mountain this weekend. I expect 30K strong to pick up my slack. I'll so the same for at least one of you at the Whee next weekend.

Go Apps!

I got in a fight last year because of this issue.

I was in the temporary endzone seats. There was a group of mountain locals next to us. I was trying to rile everyone around us up, successfully I might add, but the group of hill billies just looked at me and continued to be stoic. I asked them, "So this is your first App game? Welcome!" He told me it was not. I responded "well you fooled me, we actually yell on defense here." Long story short, words were exchanged, redneck's noses were opened, and we enjoyed the rest of the game with empty seats next to us.

Just curious, what yard line do you usually sit on? It's definitely louder on the 50, but people are filling in earlier this year and I'm usually around the 20 now. Maybe that's the problem, I don't know. I feel like the student section should feel like the student section, no matter where you are in it.

From my experience, the crowd noise is directly related to the importance of the moment. For an important game, like App/Wofford on Sat., I expect the crowd noise to be L-O-U-D most all the time we are on D, and even other times. I also expect the attendance to be the best yet this year, and that few will leave until the game is over (BUT, if Wofford scores the first 38 points, don't count on that.)

Can't wait. Is it kickoff time yet?

Got your back, SpeedkingATL. Great tailgate and cheering loudly already lined up.

i usually make it in time to sit between the 30s, only once have I had to settle for the grass. I'm with you though, the freshmen become quieter every year. When I was 18, all I wanted to do was be loud and obnoxious so I don't really understand it at all...
