Time to turn the page.......

Unread post by MDaniels84 » Sun Sep 04, 2016 12:22 am

I have had lots of thoughts over the last 48 hours. Elation that we were ahead of Tenn most of the game. Disappointment that we did not finish as well as I had hoped. Finally, pride in the overall work ethic of this team and coaching staff. These young men played their guts out and punched Tennessee in the mouth Thursday evening. I have never seen better line play (offense and defense) than I witnessed on Thursday night in front of a hostile crowd. Kicking game frustrations and clock management issues aside, could not be more excited about the POTENTIAL of this group putting together a special season.

Now, It is game week once again and we need to take care of business with odu coming to Boone. Hope that we have a great turnout and support these Mountaineers who have worked so hard to put themselves in a position to be a really great edition of APP football. Can't wait to get to my seats in Section 215 on Saturday. My wife, my son, and I are planning to get there in time for Mountaineer Walk so that we can well wish our warriors as they get ready to play.

After losing the way we did last week I think our guys will come out very fired up and ready to get a W. Last year after losing to Clemson we went to ODU and beat them 49-0 in a pretty have rain storm. They should be better on offense this year, but I don't seem them scoring too much on this defense. I'd say we win comfortably, but some of that depends on how much progress our passing game makes.

Tennessee seldom challenged us with the deep pass, ODU will be taking their shots downfield. A lot will depend on our pressuring the QB into mistakes and rushed passes. I think we can run on their defense. Hoping we can set up our own passing game.

One huge aspect of our defense that was evident Thursday night was our line depth and strength. How many times did our "undersized " linemen push right through that SEC offensive line? UT fans can use words like vanilla but that part of the game was undeniable. As long as we remain disciplined and don't take unnecessary chances we should dominate ODU

We did play vanilla. As it turns out, your team is far too good to do that against, and you should have won that game. I tip my hat to you for certain. I also hope you are as good as you looked and not the other way around :D

I look forward to watching you guys play the rest of the season, and I hope you dismantle Miami. Cheers to 11-1 guys.

Tennessee woke up and played strong football in the 2nd half. Especially in the 4th quarter. That fumble landing in a different way could've changed everything...or the ridiculous rule that a fumble can be advanced on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd down (but not on 4th) being different could've changed...or (as our friend Thomas K wrote in his recap) if that fumble being ruled an illegal forward pass...but none of those things happened. We lost. We played well...but lost.

I feel very good about our chances vs ODU. I feel better than average about our chances vs Miami.
