Largest visiting crowd ever?

Will Miami be the largest visiting crowd to come to Boone ever? I know Marshall used to bring a decent amount back in the 80's and 90's. How many Canes fans do you think have tickets?

They will by far be the biggest crowed ever. I think they got what, about 2500 from the school to sell and those are gone. When everyone in Miami heard I was from NC they all said we love to vacation in Boone! I am guessing they will bring about 3-4000.

I didn't think Miami travels well at all?? I'm sure a lot of their tickets were bought by our fans. I do think they will have a good crowd with a lot of North Carolina Canes fans there.

I heard today that we will have an ACC refereeing crew. Is that correct? If so, why?

Per the contract, the ACC/Miami was responsible for finding a field and replay crew. Do not know if that contract stipulated whether the crew had to be from a non-affiliated conference or not.

Maybe that's the only way they'd come to Boone. Tech/UT game in Bristol had Big Ten refs.

Miami actually does travel well. People are usually shocked, since Miami is known to not have the best home crowds, but Miami has a national fan base, and a national alumni base. Miami has a large Metro Atlanta and Charlotte Alumni base, and there will be a lot of Miami fans there. I have no idea if it'll be the largest ever for you, but it will be a lot, and more than 2,500 Miami officially received.

Their tickets were only on sale to booster club members. They don't travel well by P5 standards but 3,000 tickets or so isn't that many to sell, especially when they have a decent number of alumni who live in the area.

What are P5 standards? Aside from FSU, where we always bring 10-12,000 fans, we do travel well to a lot of ACC venues, especially GT (we've had 10,000 there, and I've had GT fans tell me and other Miami fans that Miami brings more fans than everyone except UGA, Clemson and Auburn) and UNC.

It's relatively standard for the away team to bring their conferences officials.

That's one of the main differences between state and private schools, don't you think? Of our 120,000 alumni, something like 85% of them live within a five hour drive of Boone. Miami's alumni are all over the country. I'm sure there will be more orange and green in Kidd Brewer Stadium than any of us might guess.

Travel safely.

Miami will play in front of more crowd in Boone than when they travel to Winston-Salem or Durham within their conference.

I thought the officials at the Tennessee game were SEC refs

Yes, for sure. While Miami does have more students and alum from the tri county (Dade, Broward, Palm Beach) area and from Florida than other private schools that size do from local areas, I think only about 40% are from Florida and about 30% of that from the Metro Miami area. Everyone rips us for our attendance, and yes, it's not great, but there are more FSU and UF alum in the area than Miami alum.

I think this is pretty accurate. We'll make a solid showing.

Get ready for questionable calls then!! Then again, it will be televised nationally and instant replay will be use.

Maybe "P5 standards" was the wrong comparison. Should have said compared to other P5 elites/recent championship winners. I'm thinking Bama, Ohio State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, etc.

I was getting my master's at OSU in '02 and remember hearing how that Fiesta Bowl was almost like a home game for them.

Well, Ohio State has 60,000 students. Miami has 15,000. Multiply that with alumni, and you get whatever you get. Then add in the fact that 90% of of Ohioans are OSU fans at birth, and 10-15% of Floridians are Miami fans, and that's why you see disparities like that. It's the same with most of the "elite" state schools, and then Notre Dame is just Notre Dame.
