Minus the extracurriculars. Kermit is a great guy. Solid Leader of men. He sets a good example.
Billy was none of that.

Yes, my comment is strictly about on-field results and in-game decision making. I have zero problem with Kermit as a person or leader.
The players have to fight through it and figure out how to win.SlappyAppy72 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2026 7:07 pmThe chips have got to start falling in our favor at some point don't they? This is gut wrenching. Tomorrow is a great day to start a winning streak.
Wrestling has been our top male sport for years, at least from a consistency point, and we have historically been strong in cross country. Not a surprising statement to me.
All of us who follow App athletics closely know wrestling has been a strong, consistent program. The unfortunate part is the main sports of football, basketball, and baseball continue to disappoint and/or regress. Very unfortunate.
I don't think basketball is regressing. Kerns does a tremendous job ..no losing seasons ...complete roster turnover after that great reg season 2 years ago. I would say basketball is one of the highlights. Also I believe football is on the way back up. Got a heck of a recruiting class for football. Fair enough. Just given the recent back and forth discussion on the fall off of play at the end of the season over the past few, it appears some agree and some don't. I may have some recency bias admittedly, but I feel each year is a repeat of the last with basketball and as long as our top talent keeps getting poached, the cycle continues. It doesn't feel to me like we are ascending. More like we have peaked and this is our future.ncman071 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2026 6:21 amI don't think basketball is regressing. For most of us that follow App. St. athletics, not sure many could say men's basketball has regressed. Been to the NCAA's for first time in 21 years when it happened. Followed up with a great conference year that unfortunately ended in a conference tournament loss. Although the year did not end well this year, I thought Kerns did a great job with a lesser talented team overall. ..and yes, recruiting is part of the overall toolkit of a coach. It may be a steady ship maintaining a 19 to 20 win seasons...not excellent or outstanding, however has not regressed.ncman071 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2026 6:21 amI don't think basketball is regressing. I have never considered basketball or baseball to be a "main" sport at App State and they certainly haven't been treated that way from a budgetary support position. Football is App State's main sprot and sadly, it has not fared well lately. As to basketball, I think an argument can be made that Kerns has us in the "salad years" of App State basketball. In the past 7 years App has won more Sun Belt basketball games than any other program. We have won an outright conference regular season title and also a conference tournament title in that span. App has generally been bad to decent in basketball and I would say that Kerns has elevated us to pretty good to good, I think overall basketball under Kerns is up. Baseball seems to be about the same as it always is, sometimes competitive and other times we look lost and give up 9th inning leads, but outside of a handful of years that has pretty much summed up our baseball program at least since I got to App in 1988.AppDub wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2026 10:20 pmAll of us who follow App athletics closely know wrestling has been a strong, consistent program. I think you are spot on. Baseball at best is third or fourth tier in the hierarchy at App let alone the Sun Belt conference. They have enough talent to “compete“ but lack what’s needed to make the jump to the next step.t4pizza wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2026 9:41 amI have never considered basketball or baseball to be a "main" sport at App State and they certainly haven't been treated that way from a budgetary support position.
